A drainage membrane instead of gravel for a garden path: 100% protection for 100 years from weeds and puddles
Every owner of a private house or summer cottage dreams of well-groomed garden paths. How to make sure that there are no weeds, the paths are neat and dry?
It used to be thought that crushed stone helps against weeds and puddles. But there is a more successful material that will successfully replace the well-known crushed stone. This is a drainage membrane. It removes moisture and prevents weeds from growing. The material is sold in a roll of various widths.

- Does not decompose, is resistant to chemicals, frost and high temperatures.
- There are protrusions (like thorns), thanks to which all moisture is diverted into the soil.
- The membrane is able to withstand traffic loads without further deformation. You just need to put 10 cm. concrete, reinforced gasket.
- Membrane is more profitable than crushed stone. Material thickness 9 mm. equal to 80 cm. a layer of crushed stone (fraction 5-20 mm.). You can save a lot and lay out garden paths faster.
Drainage membrane drains tracks and sidewalks on the site. You don't need to dig a deep pit and buy rubble.
If you cover the paths with rubble, then over time you will notice that the stone goes into the ground. Dirt flows through the rubble and weeds sprout. This won't happen with a membrane.

Choose material with a thickness of at least 0.4 mm. it is better to take 0.6 mm. TPO and EPDM are better than PVC.
A place is marked for a garden path. A pit is pulled out with a depth of only 20-25 cm. the soil is compacted.
You need to make a slight slope (1 cm. per 1 meter of coverage). Measure the membrane and cut off the required pieces.
We lay it up with a layer of geotextile. The material is overlapped (5 cm), and the joints are connected with adhesive tape. Then comes the first layer of sand, which is spilled with water and compacted. Second layer of sand. The thickness of each layer is 5 cm. Then the surface is leveled with a rule and tile or other material is laid.
