Making a folding trellis for cucumbers
Good time, dear readers of the Kulibins channel. Surely everyone is already closely engaged in their gardens, preparing plots and putting in order the dacha economy. I have long ago grown tulips and the whole planting process is going on.
Today, at the next surfing session on the Internet, I dug up one interesting homemade product. This is a wooden trellis for cucumbers, and it is made in a folding version. It can be used in season, and then folded and hidden in the barn.
This is how this thing looks schematically. It can be installed both on a specially prepared box and on an open bed.
Now let's get down to the manufacturing process. The photo shows some of the elements that we need for assembly. Bolts with nuts and washers are needed to create a movable connection. Metal brackets for attaching the mesh to a wooden base.
The metal mesh is attached to two boards to their end part as shown in the photo. Please note here that the author uses steel mesh and therefore does not cross-brace the boards. If you will be using soft mesh or just wire, then you need to make a solid frame from the boards.
Cutouts are made in the lower part of the net in order to bend this part towards the ground with the trellis installed. Further on the photo it will be clearly shown.
The net is attached with staples directly to the board. And by the way, to extend the life of this homemade product, it is very desirable to cover the wood with protective compositions, and in the lower part, in the place of contact with the ground, it is also desirable to paint several layers.
Now we make a support leg. As you can see in the photo, the design is not at all complicated, the main thing is that it is narrower in width than the main frame, since the supporting paw folds into it.
It is not necessary to make a cutout to connect the boards; they can be fixed at the end on metal corners or on screws. Here, think for yourself as your heart desires.
Now we are assembling the structure. We estimate the angle of inclination of the trellis, attach the support foot and mark the place of drilling the holes for the bolts.
This is how the support post is connected to the frame. Here, along the height of the frame board, you can make several holes at once so that you can adjust the angle of inclination of the frame.
Next, we install the trellis on the site and bend the lower section of the mesh (which we cut above) towards the ground, as shown in the photo.
This is how the structure looks in working and assembled condition. It turns out very convenient. It can be used not only for cucumbers, but also for any legume plants, as well as for creating shade from flowers.
There is already the process of growing cucumbers in all its glory.
This is how these structures look on the site. As soon as the harvest of cucumbers is harvested, the structure can be folded and taken to the barn. And you no longer need to build special frames in the garden that spoil the whole view.
While writing the article, I thought about another use case. You can attach pots with soil to the base of the frame and plant climbing plants there, so you get a mobile lawn. It will be possible to rearrange it along with the flowers and make yourself a shadow to drink beer in nature))
I look forward to your comments. What do you think about this design and how expedient it is to do it?
