Why does my 80-year-old neighbor keep planting his garden?
Good afternoon, dear readers! Today I would like to talk about why older people prefer to grow vegetables and fruits in their garden, and not buy them from farmers, at the market or in a store.
Very often among the gardeners we see elderly people who are already about 80 years old.
It seems that at such a respectful age, a person needs rest, but every day they strive to their beds with enviable persistence. My neighbor is no exception. Despite the fact that children and grandchildren live independent lives and do not need anything, he still plants a vegetable garden. When asked why he needs extra worries, grandfather replies that his products are the most delicious and healthy.
It is difficult to disagree with this. Often, buying beautiful vegetables in the store, it turns out that they taste terrible. And the shelf life leads to certain thoughts: how can a tomato or pepper be stored for more than 2 months and at the same time look as if it has just been plucked from the garden.
How many chemicals are added to vegetables to keep them marketable? But these substances have a very bad effect on our bodies.
So my 80-year-old neighbor is forced to grow his own potatoes, which are not only tasty, but also do not contain a lot of chemicals.
Besides potatoes, the neighbor is fond of greenhouse plants. He is a former biology teacher, so he knows perfectly well how to properly grow cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers so that they delight the owner from early spring to late autumn.
Caring for the beds and in the greenhouse takes a lot of energy, but a person cannot live without movement. My neighbor is weeding instead of morning exercises. And instead of walking - walking with a watering can and watering plants.
He claims that if it were not for his vegetable garden and greenhouse, he would have long ago turned into a decrepit old man, unable to do anything on his own.
My elderly neighbor does not want to become a burden for his children. He is very pleased that he can always treat his children and grandchildren with healthy food. And how fun it is for all relatives when they get together to harvest.
So maybe they didn't come to visit my grandfather, but in order to help, they find time. So, the neighbor does not even think about a quiet pension, but seeks to live actively and help relatives who do not have time for vegetable gardens because of the tower rhythm of city life.
I wish you health and long life!
