Why design a toilet? Or 5 common mistakes that arise when repairing a "secret room"

The toilet is quite intimate, sometimes even a shameful room. No friends are invited to show off. But with a good quality renovation, you won't have to blush for your closet if a guest does visit it.

But, unfortunately, many people think and act differently! They do not thoroughly think over the interior design, making the "territory of thoughtfulness" neutral, leaving it practically without decoration. Do they like public toilets? Indeed, without proper decor, the home “secret room” will turn into a faceless semblance of a “outhouse” at an airport or hospital. And this is a sad situation! And in order to avoid such an unpleasant picture for you, I have prepared a small list of mistakes that are often encountered when arranging a restroom.

And don't forget that we all spend as much time in the boardroom as in the bathroom. And therefore, the situation in the toilet must be up to the mark!

Mistake # 1. Do not provide a storage system

. Many people perceive the toilet as a small secondary closet, in which they hide a mop, a broom with a dustpan, a bucket, rags and other cleaning products. You shouldn't do this and it's pointless to lump everything together. Try to plan ahead for a convenient storage location for these accessories.

The most optimal solution would be to use a cabinet above the toilet. It will not take up useful floor space and at the same time will accommodate all the household "products" you need.

Mistake # 2. Choose the wrong color. Keep in mind that the main background for the floor, ceiling and walls is selected taking into account darkness and artificial lighting. Therefore, try to avoid solid white or black finishes. On such coatings, any, even the smallest, contamination can be seen with the naked eye.

In addition, when arranging a toilet, certain decor methods are used. Namely! The first involves decorating the floor and wall behind the toilet with tiles with a single graphic pattern. The second is to create a smooth transition of color from floor to walls using tiles of similar shades.

And one more thing: be sure to follow the basic rules for choosing a color palette. That is, use a maximum of three colors in decoration and choose shades that match the overall style of the interior.

Mistake number 3. Don't think over the location of the toilet. It is a mistake to assume that the “footprint” can be installed from either side. Since when placing the toilet, you should take into account both the direction of opening the door and the position of the person himself in the room.

For example, in a separate room, the toilet should be placed against the far wall. In the combined bathroom, it is advisable to foresee in advance the “convenience” compartment with a screen or a thin decorative partition.

Mistake # 4. Don't schedule a sink. Now the whole world has understood the importance of hand washing. Therefore, regardless of the type of bathroom, there must be a sink in it. Even in a small room 100% there is a place where you can install a rectangular or corner washbasin.

Then there will be no need to run to the bathroom to wash your hands.

Mistake # 5. Do not calculate lighting. One of the first steps you should take when renovating a toilet is to calculate the lighting. Since after the completion of the repair and finishing work, it will be extremely difficult and expensive to fix such a mistake.

Feel free to use all kinds of lighting fixtures: ceiling (built-in, chandelier ...), wall (sconce), floor (backlight) and decorative (LED strip). There is never too much light!
