All experienced vegetable growers know well that the yield of bell pepper depends on the correct and timely formation of the bush.

It is necessary to pay attention to this not tricky, but very important agrotechnical manipulation from the seedling period. This will increase not only the number of fruits, but also their quality.

I regularly carry out the formation of bell pepper bushes and have long ago gotten my hand and eye in this business.

The role of bush formation

The formation of a bell pepper bush by removing excess shoots and ovaries, pinching, is necessary for tall and hybrid varieties.

This is due to the fact that during the growth of the plant, the green mass is actively growing, as a result of which the leaves and shoots, taking all the useful components from the soil, grow powerful, while the fruits themselves remain small.

In addition, when the bell pepper bushes branch strongly, the air movement between the plants is limited, and lighting is also significantly impaired. Such phenomena are fraught with yellowing of the leaves, dropping of buds.

Is it always necessary to form bushes?

There is no need to form bushes of bell pepper of low and medium-sized varieties, the height of which does not exceed half a meter.

This is due to the fact that such vegetable crops are compact enough, they have enough air exchange and they do not lack nutrients.

On this kind of varieties, it is enough to simply eliminate the lateral leaves and shoots on which no ovaries have formed.

Correct formation of the bush

I begin to form a bush when more than 10 leaves appear on it and shoots begin to develop, as a rule, their number by this time does not exceed four.

During this period, I leave the two strongest branches and form a V-shaped stem. Subsequently, these stems will give their branches, and thus the formation of branches of the second order occurs, which allows me to harvest twice a season for pepper.

At the V-shaped stem, I pinch all weak branches and remove the flower buds and shoots formed in the places where the leaves are attached. But here it is important to take into account that two foliage are involved in organizing the nutrition of the fetus - the main and the side, and therefore it is necessary to leave one leaf at a time.

I pinch the lateral shoots after one or two pairs of ovaries have formed on them.

In order for the peppers to be large, I always remove the first flower bud formed between the stems. The fact is that such a fruit produces a special component - an inhibitor, which inhibits the growth and development of all pepper ovaries.
