The way I sprout potatoes before planting every year. The harvest always brings only positive Emotions
Probably every summer resident is engaged in growing potatoes on a personal plot. And I am no exception. I have a large potato plantation at my dacha, and for many years now I have been providing root crops for my family and the families of all my relatives, because I always get the harvest of this vegetable crop excellent.
The experience accumulated over the years in gardening has allowed me to identify one important pattern: the yield of potatoes directly depends on the quality of the planting material and the characteristics of its germination. I am pleased to share with you my secret of how I sprout potatoes before planting them.
The benefits of germination
Sprouting potatoes has a number of undeniable advantages, which include the following:
Due to germination, the roots and shoots of potato tubers appear much faster and as a result, when such planting material is placed in the ground, the first shoots will please earlier;
· Germination helps to select the best seed material for planting and to sift out potatoes that are not suitable for planting, since they will not bring a crop.
· Sprouted potato tubers are more resistant to diseases and various pests and are considered high-quality planting material.
When to start?
The start time for sprouting potato tubers depends on the planned date of planting. Usually, potatoes begin to germinate 30-45 days before this event. This time will be enough for the tubers to sprout.
Tuber preparation
As seed material, I select only clean potato tubers, the size of a hen's egg, that do not show any damage or signs of rot.
By the time germination begins, it is important that these tubers do not have long and thin shoots, small and powerful shoots will not interfere.
Before germination, I put the potatoes in a weak solution of potassium permanganate for half an hour.
Germination in boxes
I exclusively use this method of sprouting potatoes, as it has never let me down, I always get the highest quality seed material.
So, I cover the boxes on all sides with cellophane, after which I spread the potatoes, while covering the tubers with sawdust. Next, I spill the potato crates with water and leave them alone.
A week later, I saturate the planting material with a nutritious mixture prepared on the basis of wood ash (a glass of ash in a bucket of water). After 2 days I repeat this procedure. After a week, the planting material is ready.
Sprouting potatoes according to my method will allow you to get high-quality seed, which will be the key to a rich harvest of this vital vegetable crop.
