Terrace at the cottage made of pallets: an ingenious, budgetary idea from wooden pallets

The terrace has long ceased to be a sign of luxury. Such a structure can be made with your own hands from inexpensive materials. For example, from pallets.

A little imagination, free time and a miracle terrace in the country is ready.

Pallets can be a solid foundation if done correctly. You can complete the work in one day.

A great place for a terrace is the wall of the house where the front door is. Can be done around the entire perimeter of the building.

The shape can be any: square, broken, rectangular, etc. If your summer cottage is made of timber or logs, then wood will be the best material for the terrace.

The foundation of the terrace must be done at a depth of freezing of the soil. If the structure is light, then a columnar foundation can be made. Still, it is recommended to choose a strip foundation.

Before starting construction, draw a rough sketch on paper. The number of pallets directly depends on the size of the terrace.

The size of standard pallets is 120x100x12, and euro pallets are 120x80x12.

First you need to process the pallets. Dry pallets well. Sand them to make them smooth.

Several pallets will need to be disassembled into boards, leaving the frame. Place these frames on a concrete surface. Place planks if the surface is not level.

Pallets can be placed directly on the ground without a foundation. Just level the surface and cover the soil with geotextiles.

The material will protect the boards from decay. There is an option to make a cushion of rubble and lay pallets.

Connect the pallets with self-tapping screws. Cover with a layer of antiseptics or used engine oil so that the board does not rot and lasts longer.

Then nail the boards to one another. If you wish, paint it with paint or varnish.
