Dome houses built using frame technology are not yet so common in our country. Due to the unusual geometry and design. But who wants to stand out among the usual boxes - this is his option. Moreover, it is good when there are experienced companies on the market that have built dozens of such houses, and share advice. This is what the article is about.

An important element of the domed house is the roof. The domed house itself is a combination of walls and roofing. Therefore, the durability of the structure and its appearance will depend on the quality of the used roofing materials.

So, I'm posting tips on roofing from builders who have built dozens of such houses. Namely, 37 domed houses were built, as well as 38 frame houses, including the sale of house kits.

There are two main types of domes: geodesic (from triangles) and stratodesic (on arcs). In their experience, patterned shingles are best suited for domes. This tile is two-layer and comes in a rectangular cut, which simplifies installation and, most importantly, hides uneven joints. After all, the dome narrows towards the top and the tiles must be gradually cut:

In general, we can say about the tiles on the dome that this is a big plus in terms of the fact that in fact the entire facade is made of tiles. And it doesn't need to be serviced. In contrast, for example, from wooden facades, which must be covered with impregnations every two to three years so that they have a decent look.

An important detail: the tiles on the domed house are also mounted on vertical walls, it needs to be better fixed. On vertical walls, the number of nails for fastening one sheet is needed one and a half times more than on a flat roof.

Like any roofing material, shingles get quite hot in the summer, or rather, very much in the sun and in the heat. And so that the house does not heat up much, a ventilation gap of 50 mm is made under the entire surface of the dome.

It can also be noted that the installation differs from a flat sloped roof and has its own characteristics. And without experience, you can do at least ugly. It is more difficult to lay tiles on triangular domes than on an arc domed house.

Many have a prejudiced attitude towards shingles, allegedly it smells in the sun, but this is some kind of myth and in reality no one has ever complained. In addition, if you use not the cheapest tiles, then everything will be in order with it, since there is a good composition of bitumen and it is 2-3 layers.

This is a larch shingle (shingles are like planks). It turns out to be 5 times more expensive than shingles and looks doubtful afterwards when it turns gray. Metal, too, can not be avoided plainly, it is difficult and expensive to work with.

You can even guess the logic of the owners of these buildings and structures: apparently, to emphasize environmental friendliness. But in fact, the durability decreases and the appearance suffers. For a domed house, the choice is obvious.
