What does Garden Petunia dislike? 5 main mistakes when caring for a beautiful flower
The beauty petunia is famous as one of the most unpretentious flowers, but this does not mean that it is capable of growing like a weed, without supervision and care! I was convinced of this from my own sad experience.
And now, after analyzing the mistakes and reading the botanical literature, I am ready to share with all fans of petunias the TOP mistakes that should never be made in relation to these beautiful flowers!
Insufficient lighting
Petunia loves the sun - for seedlings barely emerging from seeds and mature plants, the duration daylight hours should be at least 12 hours, and ideally, light should pour on the flower all 13-14 hours.
If it is not enough, the culture postpones the formation of buds, flowering does not last long. Therefore, in the garden, petunias are assigned the sunniest place.
And during the growth of seedlings, the pot with it must be turned so that it receives light evenly from all sides, otherwise the stems may bend.
Preservation of wilted flowers
It's just ugly. But even more importantly, if you leave them on the plant, then it begins to grow the seed pod, naturally, spending vitality and nutrients on it. Which could go to the formation of new buds.
Insufficient watering
Often, for fear of waterlogging, flower growers create conditions for plants comparable to desert conditions. Petunia reacts violently to this - the leaves turn yellow and flowering is canceled this season.
It is important to ensure that the soil is always moistened to a depth of 2-3 cm.
To retain moisture, you can mulch the ground near petunias, for example, with colored decorative chips or shavings, which can be purchased inexpensively at a specialized florist shop. So the flower garden will not lose its decorative appearance from mulching.
Overhead part bay
I have already noted that the soil where the petunia grows should be well and constantly moistened. But for some reason it is often watered from above, splashing the leaves!
This is dangerous not only by the appearance of sunburn during the day, but also by the fact that the stems will be struck by rot, the plant will decrease immunity to viral diseases.
Fertilizer deficiency
Even if the petunia is planted in super-fertile soil, this will not be enough for her. In fact, it is a magnificent "glutton" among flowers.
For lush flowering, organic fertilizers should be applied every 2-3 weeks, and 2-3 times during the summer, fertilizing with potassium monophosphate is mandatory.
