How do I feed the Currant in May and get juicy large Berries for several years in a row

Currants cannot be ignored during the growing season. The future harvest of this crop depends on spring feeding. I try to organize adequate nutrition for the currants, timely introducing the necessary substances into the soil under it.

The main trace elements that contribute to the abundant fruiting of currant bushes include:

Nitrogen;

Potassium;

· Phosphorus.

Top dressing must be carried out at a certain period of plant growth. The first time I spend it with nitroammophoska before flowering, when the air temperature reaches +5 degrees.

For this, fertilizer is scattered under the bush, 10 grams each. The second feeding is carried out during the flowering period and includes phosphorus-potassium fertilizers in a ratio of 10 grams of potassium sulfate and 10 grams of superphosphate per 10 liters of water.

With this solution, I evenly water the currants. Outside, I carry out root dressing at the end of May by spraying the leaves. For this I use 3 grams of superphosphate and potassium sulfate.

From personal experience, I know that a decrease in the number and size of currant berries indicates a lack of phosphorus.

It affects the formation of the underground part, but its main effect is the formation of berries and their taste. During the formation of the ovary, it is useful to feed the currant bush with wood ash.

Having previously loosened the soil, I add 150 grams of ash for black currants and 200 grams for red ones. After that, I water the plant abundantly. After harvesting, it is necessary to support the culture by introducing an aqueous solution of superphosphate and potassium sulfate under the root.

In addition to mineral fertilizers, organic matter can be used for good fruiting. For this, a solution of mullein in a ratio of 1 kg per 4 liters of water or bird droppings in a ratio of 1 kg per 10 liters of water is suitable.

If you collect fresh grass of chamomile, dandelion, wheatgrass and nettle, then you can put it in a barrel, flooding it with water. For fermentation, I add stale bread or candied jam.

This drug is infused for 10 days until a characteristic odor appears. Then I take 1 liter of fermented liquid and dilute it in 10 liters of water. With this solution I pour the currants under the root.

Using such dressings, I get a harvest of currants the size of a cherry, and also significantly reduce the shedding of berries.

It must be remembered that the fruiting of currants is affected not only by fertilization, but also by the place shrub growth, correct pruning, as well as timely pest control and diseases.
