A hedge not only protects the site from prying eyes, but also becomes a decoration of the territory. Consider the top ten plants for creating a lively, and most importantly, very attractive fence.

10th place: hydrangea

This is a very beautiful plant, which, during the flowering period, becomes a luxurious decoration of the garden and pleases with bright juicy greens until cold weather. The spreading bush is distinguished by its large dark green, emerald leaves. Paniculate and tree hydrangeas work well for hedging. Lush flowering is considered a characteristic feature of plants. Hydrangea prefers acidic soils. The benefits of hydrangea are as follows:

  • many shades of buds;
  • flowering lasts a long time;
  • inflorescences and leaves are large;
  • can grow in light shade.

The disadvantage of hydrangea is its exactingness to growing conditions and care. She needs abundant watering. The plant does not tolerate frost - it is required to create a reliable shelter from the wind and low temperatures. The branches need to be pruned annually, as the inflorescences appear only on new shoots.

9th place: lilac

If you need a tall hedge, plant lilacs. In the spring, during the flowering period, the bush smells fragrant, filling the garden with a special charm. But it is worth choosing the right varieties, which should be undemanding to the growing conditions. For example, it can be Amur or Hungarian lilac. The positive qualities of the shrub are as follows:

  • grows well within the city;
  • does not require frequent watering;
  • resistant to the development of diseases and pest attacks;
  • pruning is easy;
  • not afraid of frost (only in severe frost shelter is required).

The disadvantages include the need to cut out root shoots annually. The flowering period of the shrub is short - 2–4 weeks.

8th place: barberry Thunberg

The barberry hedge looks original in the garden. These are dense, deciduous shrubs, the height of which rarely exceeds 1 m. They are decorative throughout the warm season. It is worth choosing this plant for a hedge for a number of reasons:

  • The plant is unpretentious, knows how to adapt to different conditions.
  • Leaves change color from dark green to deep red. After the flowering period, red berries appear.
  • The fence turns out to be quite dense.
  • It is not difficult to shape the fence.

Barberry has thorns that make it more difficult to care for the plant. The plant shoots in unwanted places for growth, so the shoots have to be removed periodically.

7th place: crown mock-orange

It is a flowering shrub up to 3 m high, the inflorescences of which give off a pleasant sweet aroma. Chubushnik is unpretentious, feels good in temperate climates. The main features of the plant:

  • The leaves are colored bright green.
  • The width of the fence is relatively small.
  • Even after heavy pruning, the plant recovers quickly.

Chubushnik has practically no drawbacks. The plant prefers well-lit areas, does not like waterlogging and soil compaction.

6th place: white dogwood

Deciduous shrub grows up to 3 m in height, so it is suitable for tall hedges. Even in winter, its shoots, painted in bright red shades, adorn the backyard. The plant blooms 2 times a year. In autumn, after the growing season, small berries appear. Many gardeners use dogwood as a hedge for a number of reasons:

  • The plant looks beautiful throughout the year.
  • In autumn, the foliage is colored in different shades from amber to wine, which looks spectacular and creates a fabulous atmosphere.
  • You can give the hedge any shape.
  • Not afraid of high and low temperatures.
  • Feels good even in urban areas.
  • Shoots develop rapidly.
  • An unpretentious plant does not require feeding.

Since the plant develops quickly, pruning has to be done quite often. If this work is not carried out, the shoots are exposed below - because of this, the hedge looks sloppy.
