I tell you what I feed Cherry in June. Thanks to this, we increase the fruit set and multiply the harvest several times.
Cherry blossoms are one of the most beautiful things to see in the garden. But probably many will agree with me that the ripening harvest on cherries is an even more delightful sight!
In order to be able to enjoy its appearance and taste, every June I used to feed cherries in a special way. Increasing the vitality of trees and promoting the growth of ovaries.
First of all, at the very beginning of May, strictly before flowering, I use spraying with a urea solution - 20 g per 10 liters of water. In principle, for trees from 2 to 4 years old, the concentration of the solution can be safely increased by 1.5 times.
But I advise you to do this only if the cherry seems to be weakened after wintering, if too many frost-bitten shoots had to be successful during spring pruning.
The fact is that, according to current scientific data, urea not only increases the number of ovaries formed, but can also make cherries more capable of forming nitrates. And although this is still only a theory that has not received unambiguous confirmation, I do not want to risk it.
I would also like to emphasize that nitrogen fertilization of cherries is allowed to be applied only once - before the beginning of flowering or after its end.
What is absolutely harmless for cherries and humans is boron treatment at the very beginning of flowering, it is advisable to catch the moment when the buds have not yet opened. Only it is necessary to spray with a solution not the inflorescences themselves, but the leaves of the tree.
Boric acid solution not only improves fruit setting, but also increases the content of vitamin C and sugars in cherries, which naturally makes them even healthier and tastier.
But the most valuable substances for the future harvest, of course, are potassium and phosphorus. With their deficiency, the fruits are formed small and crumble. Therefore, when the flowering is over, I will definitely prepare a solution of 10 liters of water, 20 g of superphosphate and 30 g of potassium sulfate.
It is impossible to pour it into the trunk circle right away - you can burn the cherry root system! Before fertilizing, the cherries should be watered with plain clean water.
In conclusion, I want to add that it is also useful for gardeners to know the level of soil acidity. Cherries develop well when the Ph is at 6-7 units. If the soil is sour, it is advisable to add a little wood ash at early spring digging.
