What to put in the hole when planting cucumbers.
When the weather turns steadily warm, it's the perfect time to plant cucumbers. If you follow all the requirements set out in this article, then you will be guaranteed an excellent harvest of vegetables.
There are two ways to plant cucumbers: seeds and seedlings. It should be remembered that the cucumber seedlings are very capricious and are difficult to transfer to the ground. Therefore, it is recommended to use peat pots that decompose in the soil.
An important point when growing this vegetable is the initial nutrition of the plant, which they will receive immediately after planting in the garden.
If the cucumbers do not get enough nutrients, they will not develop normally and will not yield a good harvest as a result.
The most important trace elements that cucumbers require are potassium, nitrogen, and phosphorus. Potassium helps to strengthen the plant's immunity. It also empowers young seedlings to withstand temperature extremes.
How can you tell if your cucumbers are deficient in potassium?
If the leaves of cucumbers begin to turn yellow and dry out, this means that the plant suffers from a lack of potassium. Cucumbers with a deficiency of this element are prone to various diseases and, accordingly, a decrease in yield.
When planting cucumbers in the holes, add a teaspoon of ammophos under each plant and one tablespoon of bone meal.
Experienced gardeners use crushed eggshells. Before sowing seeds or planting seedlings, the soil must be well watered.
When a few days have passed after planting, you should feed the cucumbers. To do this, use boron (15 g), urea (25 g), double superphosphate (20 g), potassium sulfate (15 g).
All of these substances are mixed and diluted with a bucket of water. At least one liter of solution must be added under each plant.
Very often, gardeners replace this top dressing with organic fertilizers: humus, peat, eggshells, wood ash.
Nettle and dandelion leaves can be added to a solution of these substances. But in this case, it is necessary that the liquid be infused for one day, otherwise the plants will not give up all the useful substances and will not have the desired effect.
In addition, cucumbers are watered with sodium humate. This liquid fertilizer is used when the plant already has 3-5 leaves.
