How I got rid of Slugs and snails at the Dacha. The folk method that really helped
Earlier, I looked at the snails with affection and did not suspect what harm they could do to the plants that grow in my summer cottage.
I didn’t even think that I would fight them. But, as it turned out, these are not harmless creatures at all.
Snails reproduce rather quickly, and if the weather and environment are favorable for them, then one snail can produce an average of 20 slugs.
Moreover, snails are self-fertilizing creatures, and they do it 2 times a year. The eggs are small and cannot be destroyed.
So, probably, on my site there are just favorable conditions, because a lot of snails have appeared. They began to destroy young plants, especially eggplants and peppers.
The snails also harmed the seedlings. But the most dangerous thing, it seems to me, is that after the snail has crawled over the plant, an unpleasant sticky mark remains there. And this mucus is very harmful to the plant.
Some plants in my country house even died after such invasions. I realized that I had to start fighting snails and slugs.
Therefore, I want to tell you about this method, so that you do not try many methods, as I did before, but immediately use the most effective method.
What you need to get rid of snails and slugs
· Tar.
· Old fabric.
· Shovel.
How to apply the tar method
First you need to soak the pieces of fabric well with tar. After that, I buried these pieces around the perimeter of the site. Here's how simple it turned out. Snails simply cannot stand the smell of tar, so they would not even think to crawl to the beds.
Besides the fact that this method is very effective, I also liked it for another reason. First, it is absolutely harmless to the plants themselves, does not contain any pesticides.
Secondly, it does not imply the destruction of poor creatures, that is, it is quite humane, and this is important to me. Thirdly, this method seems to me very simple.
I mean, if you compare it to the manual method, when you would have to collect each snail by hand. But there are some summer residents who still use this method.
But how much effort and time is needed to collect each snail. Of course, you can collect them if the site is small and there are few snails. But in my case, this method was definitely not suitable. The population was too large.
