"Flour" from plastic pipes! Polypropylene in the sun and cold

Recently, a friend asked me to re-solder the wiring from polypropylene pipes for servicing the garden and summer shower to a new one exactly the same. Nothing seems to be ordinary, but condition of old PPR pipes still surprised. They stood under the sun for more than one year and began to resemble polystyrene (foam) with small multiple open cells.

It became interesting how such a pipe would behave if it was scratched or rubbed with something.

I tried to run a knife over the top layer of plastic and it immediately fell off! Turned into a literal powder, very fine. And when he rubbed the surface with his finger, it looked like real flour, even disbelief.

After what I saw, I wouldn't be surprised if someone says that they started adding plastic to flour or sausage!!! And this seems to be a very real prospect, only very undesirable.

To make sure that it was not the poor quality of the pipe, I also checked the condition of the old fittings and out-of-date valves on the assembly being replaced. The result was exactly the same - the surface of the fittings seemed to be sharpened by insects, a continuous sieve.

If the upper layer of plastic is scraped off, then the lower one seems more or less normal, then such a pipe, perhaps it would have served for more than one year, since the destructive ultraviolet is not gets out.
