How I built a monolithic-wooden frame house: technology, prices

Experience is the most valuable information, and doubly when it comes to construction. After all, not all sources will tell the truth, especially on the Internet. Manufacturers will impose their product and confuse it so that my head will go round! For this reason, the editors FORUMHOUSE carefully selects the stories of its participants, where they share their experience and best practices. Like and adopt the technology of erecting a monolithic-wooden frame from a forum member under the nickname tsv77.

Where did the thought come from

I have always liked the look of a house sheathed with imitation timber. In addition, thanks to the thorn-groove system, such a wall is not blown through. The disadvantage of this design is the internal insulation, which will shrink over time and worsen thermal protection. And the use of high-quality material for insulation results in a substantial amount. Recently, I came across an article about improving the quality of concrete using PVA, besides, earlier I was quite interested in wood concrete and the puzzle in my head began to take shape.

Wood + PVA + cement - three materials perfectly interact with each other. It remains to draw up a recipe and conduct a test. You may have already guessed my brilliant idea (which, of course, is not new). Sawdust or shavings are used as a filler inside the frame, PVA + cement binder. In this case, the inner filler will also bind to the outer skin. Thus, we get a monolith.

Mix recipe, construction technology

It is clear that a large amount of cement will make the wall cold, which means that you need to find the minimum required amount. In my case, the recipe turned out like this: in the cement diluted with water 1: 1, add 30% PVA-M by volume. Mix the resulting mixture with sawdust 1: 5, also by volume in a concrete mixer. As a result, a slightly moistened mass should be obtained, which begins to clump when squeezed in the hand. A little water can be added as needed.

We pre-fill the skin on the frame in a circle on both sides with a height of 1 m.Foam the cracks where moisture can come out with polyurethane foam. We put the mixture inside the wall, compact it manually as much as possible, then put a 40 mm board horizontally on top and begin to compact the insulation with jacks or wedges. We fix the board and go to the next section of the wall. The next layer of sawdust can be laid on top of these boards, or the oppression can be removed.

As a result, we get a monolithic wall from a dense mass of glued sawdust, with a density of 500-600 kg / m3. Such density is possessed by structural aerated concrete and dried wood. The mechanical properties are close to those of aerated concrete.

Now about the project price

Sawdust and shavings can always be found for self-pickup, and wet are also suitable. The highest cost will be for PVA and timber imitation. I carried out the calculation for a 7 * 8 house, with a wall height of 4.5 meters and a thickness of 30 cm.

You will need:

  • 3 cubes PVA-M at 30 r / kg (price including volume) ~ 100,000 rubles;
  • 60 bags of cement ~ 20,000 rubles;
  • 270 sq. M. imitation of timber ~ 160,000 rubles;
  • the frame will require 50,000 rubles.

In total, we get warm walls for painting for 330,000 rubles (all prices without the cost of work). With the price of aerated concrete 4500 rubles per cubic meter, the same volume only in terms of material will cost 200,000 rubles, without glue, work and decoration, but with all the disadvantages of aerated concrete. If you use mineral wool for insulation, then with a wall thickness of 20 cm, the cost of insulation will cost 130,000 and 190,000 rubles for a wall of 30 cm. The insulation was taken dense, since light types for the walls are not considered.
