This is especially true for metal roofs. How to make the roof less noisy - let's figure it out.

Reasons for a noisy roof

Excessive roof noise is a problem for economy-class houses, where there is no heat and noise insulation under the roof, and instead of it, in many cases, propylene fiber hangs from old bags. But in addition to these factors, there are others in which it is often not the materials that are to blame, but the installers.

• The rafter system is not rigid enough. If the lathing or counter-lattice does not fit tightly to the supporting structure, acoustic bridges are formed, which transmit noise and vibrations along the rafters to the house. And also the rafter system can be crooked. Reason: they brought a damp forest, whipped it up - it looks good, then the roof got hot, the forest dried up and it was led away - hence the curvature. • Over-tightened or under-tightened roofing material. Here, to a greater extent, metal tiles are given as an example. The stretched metal sheet is deformed and plays the role of a drum or string in places of stress. Any impact, be it rain, hail or wind, is transmitted to the house. A loose leaf, roughly speaking, dangles like an old bucket and also becomes a source of noise. The reason for this phenomenon is installers who do not use the tightening torque adjustment on the screwdriver. And also if the developer saves on hardware, there may be no polymer gasket under the screws. Pay attention to these points when buying a house - the deformed sheets can be seen from the ground.
• No soundproofing film under the roofing material. There are a lot of soundproofing materials that act as a soft layer between the roof and the sheathing. The task of this layer is to damp vibrations between two rigid components: the roof and the timber. It's like in a thin stainless steel sink, under which bitumen strips are glued to dampen vibrations of a metal sheet. The reason for the lack of a soundproof film: the savings (greed) of the developer.

How to get rid of roof noise

It is worth making a reservation right away that there is no quick, cheap and easy way. All available options are labor-intensive, require time, help from friends, and financial investments. It is better to use these methods during the construction of the roof - it will be the least labor-intensive.

1. Applying rubber / rubber paint to the inside of the roofing sheet. It is better to use this method before installing the roof, but if the trouble is already on the finished roof, you can risk doing work in the attic. To do this, apply two layers of the above paint with a spray gun. You can use a roller or brush, but this will take more time, effort and paint consumption will be higher. The effect of this method is high, and the financial costs are low. And also this method is suitable for metal window sills.
2. Lining of sound insulating foil under the roofing sheet. Between the crate and the sheet, it is necessary to lay a material, which is suitable for: foam polyethylene; penofol; any waterproofing. Here you also need to act before, but if you have an itch, you need to loosen the sheets, put material under them and press firmly against the crate using a self-tapping screw with a gasket and a screwdriver with tension adjustment tightening. Difficult, inconvenient, I don't want to mess with - yes, but the method will solve the problem.
   
3. Total insulation or transformation of a cold attic into a warm part of the house. Thermal insulation materials are also good sound insulation. Here, everyone is free to choose the insulation himself, the main thing is to comply with the production technology of these works, and it is according to all the rules to install hydro and vapor barrier so that the solution to one problem does not develop into another.
