How to create a Walnut Garden in the country. How to Choose the Right Sapling and How to Make the Tree Bear Fruit
It is difficult to imagine a home plot on which a walnut tree would not grow. This ubiquitous tree is famous not only for the taste of the fruit, but also for its many beneficial properties.
However, in order to choose the right nut seedling and achieve active fruiting of the tree, you need to have special knowledge.
I have been growing nuts for more than a dozen years, and the theoretical knowledge I have, supported by practical experience, allows me to say that I probably know everything about caring for this representative of the flora.
I will be happy to teach you how to choose the right seedling for planting and how to provide the tree with the most comfortable conditions.
Features of choosing a seedling
When choosing a nut seedling for planting, the following nuances must be considered:
· The roots of the seedling must be even and at the same time well branched, they must have a homogeneous structure. In order to check freshness, you can resort to one simple method: lightly scratch any of the processes.
So, if fresh wood appears in the place of the wound formed, then this indicates the high quality of the seedling.
While brown spotting or darkened endings signal the development of putrefactive processes. Healthy trees will obviously not grow from such planting material.
· The trunk of the seedling should be thick, even and smooth, and should not be damaged of any kind. Also, in no case should there be defects or curvatures, dry bark and its roughness.
It is not recommended to purchase seedlings with competing central shoots on them. When choosing a seedling, you should give preference to annual nuts with a height not exceeding 30 cm.
It is best to purchase leafless seedlings, as they are considered more winter-hardy and take root better.
Seat selection
The nut will feel most comfortable in spacious areas, where access to sunlight is not limited. The soil should be nutritious and moderately moist.
Nuts react very painfully to increased dampness or constantly being in the shade. The minimum distance that must be maintained between nut trees is five meters.
Land preparation
Before planting the nut, the soil must be enriched with additional nutrients. So, for example, you can apply fertilizer prepared on the basis of manure (one bucket), wood ash (400 grams) and superphosphate (200 grams).
Landing
The planting pit should measure 50x40x40. The seedling must be installed in the center of the planting hole, then fill in the depression, carefully tamping the soil in order to exclude the occurrence of underground voids. At the end, water the seedling with plenty of water.
Further care
To obtain a good harvest, it is necessary to provide the tree with the necessary amount of moisture, timely fertilize, form a crown, remove weeds and loosen the soil in the near-trunk circles.
By choosing the right nut seedling, and providing the tree with the most comfortable conditions for its development, you can be sure that you will soon receive a rich harvest of tasty and healthy fruits.
