Garden paths: what you can't do. 7 bad stories
Garden paths play a functional and decorative role on the site. It would be nice to make not only beautiful paths, but also durable and comfortable. Let's talk about materials. What shouldn't be used to make tracks? What materials should you not use?
It is better to build paths from the material from which the house was built. During construction, a lot of unused material remains: bricks, boards, stone, etc. If the house is built of wood, then stone and wooden beams will look great.
Brick
If you have a brick house or summer cottage, then a brick path will look quite nice.
However, not all bricks are suitable and there are disadvantages of using bricks: it does not tolerate temperature changes and can crack, collapse from moisture. Cracking can be avoided by using clinker bricks or tiles. See how to make from one brick 8 tiles.
But even clinker bricks have their disadvantages: they are expensive, they cannot cope without skill, you need to fill the joints between the bricks.
Plastic tracks
There is a modular flooring, lawn grill, tiles, garden parquet, plastic roll covering. If your house is sheathed, for example, with siding, then this option is fine. A plastic track is cheaper, easier to work with, and easy to clean up dirt and dust.
There are also disadvantages that prevent me from using plastic tracks. Plastic does not withstand significant loads. It is not environmentally friendly and does not smell good. It loses color from direct sunlight, plastic is not durable and is susceptible to temperature changes. After the first winter, it may crack. Moreover, the material is very slippery. Perhaps use as a temporary option, no more.
Grass paths
They look harmonious. Grass alleys do not overheat and produce additional oxygen. They are even resistant to trampling.
But this option also has disadvantages that will stop many. After the rainfall and every morning, the paths become wet and unpleasant to walk on. You need to watch them and mow the grass.
There is an option to make mixed grass paths using stone or wood cuts (processed). This is perhaps the ideal option.
Gravel paths
Speed, ease in the device. Gravel is one of the cheapest materials and will look good.
But the disadvantages cancel out all the advantages: you need to constantly clean the track from dust and dirt using a garden vacuum cleaner. In 1-2 years the grass will germinate. You can't walk barefoot, as the stone is with sharp edges.
Slate
Temporary solution. Not suitable for permanent coverage. Slate is fragile and brittle. A hoe or shovel will fall and the path will crack. Moreover, it is easy to cut yourself on such material.
Wood chips
This is a great solution for mulching flower beds. But for garden paths it is hardly suitable. Such a track will not withstand the loads, over time it will sag and scatter from the wind and walking along it throughout the site. Can be used for decorative paths, paths.
Carpets
Some do not throw away old carpets and lay paths. With the first rain, such a coating will pick up water, and the passage will become a mini-ditch. Walking on a squeezed path will not be convenient and over time there will be a smell of delight, mold.
