What houses do ordinary Irish people live in and why do they keep their shoes on?
Ireland is an island state located on the island of the same name, at the very edge of Europe. Dublin is the capital and largest city of Ireland. Mostly tourists come here, there are all the entertainment. In the city, you can find houses with 4-5 floors, but apartments there are often small.
But, having moved a little from the center, a building appears, typical for the whole country. Houses are different, but they have something in common.
Dublin is home to about a quarter of the population of all Ireland, but many Irish people live in the suburbs of Dublin. From there, they can travel to the city center in an hour. The development is similar to Dublin, this is a photo from Sords (one of the suburbs).
At the same time, buses run there regularly, there are large supermarkets, schools, cafes, shopping centers, the suburb does not at all mean the lack of infrastructure, it is just cheaper and quieter there.
This house (yellow) has two floors, however, there is still an attic where you can live comfortably. In my opinion, this is generally the most comfortable place, especially with such roof windows. The house has two bathrooms - one directly under the stairs, the other on the second floor.
The stairs are narrow and steep, as in most houses of this type, so as not to take up unnecessary space, the corridors are also narrow. The house is small, this is a significant space saving.
There is one large room with access to the courtyard (all houses have a small courtyard). Great place for a summer barbecue, isn't it?
One of the Irish traditions that foreigners usually cannot understand is not to take off your shoes when entering a house. The Irish, coming home, calmly walk in street shoes to their room, and there they take them off. The fact is that they usually do not use carpets in non-residential rooms, but at the same time the owners of houses often walk barefoot, even in the kitchen that is not covered with carpet. This is completely wrong for many of us, but we must give them their due, the floors in the houses are clean. How do you feel about such orders?
