She put up an expensive bathhouse on the site and quarreled with her neighbors. They envy and look askance
Life in a small village takes place in full view of the public. Not a single curious detail will be hidden from the watchful eye of the observers: a neighbor and her husband had a fight, Zoshchenko bought a car, and Aunt Lyuba again trudged home drunk, like last Friday... Rural news tend to be passed by word of mouth, often overgrown with author's additions: everyone wants to enhance the effect of their story.
Are the locals happy for each other? Maybe. But not when it comes to material goods and especially expensive acquisitions. My good old friend, Tasha, became a victim of evil tongues.. Officially, a summer resident, practically living in the village for 10 months a year.
Several years ago, Tasha and her husband decided to fulfill their old dream - to build their own bathhouse on the site. Who will refuse the opportunity to steam under the aromas of juniper when the Russian soul wishes?
The family members talked with local residents and found out that the rare and happy owners of the baths built them either themselves or negotiated with a team of builders from a neighboring urban-type settlement. Those take relatively inexpensively and put passable steam rooms.
But in cooperation with the Tashi family, as they say now, something clearly went wrong. At first, the construction team worked under pressure, breaking all deadlines. And the next spring the new building was distorted: the foundation "floated". The Tashin site is located on a slope near the river, which the local team apparently did not take into account.
For another year, Tasha and her family steamed in a slanting bath. Until the second spring it became even dangerous to be in it.
And then Tasha's husband, as they say, freaked out. I decided to take out a loan, buy a ready-made log house and call a team from the regional center that specializes in installing and bringing to mind the damned (already!) Baths. And, most importantly, they draw up an official contract with a 5-year warranty.
The man was convinced from his own experience: a miser pays twice. It is better to pay more once than to prop up the walls of a gone bath and think which board will fall on your head
The appearance on the site of a truck, a heap of fresh building materials and unknown workers, of course, did not go unnoticed in the village. Although Tashin's house stands on the very edge of the village.
Questions started pouring in. Their essence boiled down to the cost of construction. Someone came from afar, "Probably expensive pleasure," others asked head-on.
Tashin's husband, by male directness, told honestly:
6 by 6 meters, a small veranda, a bathroom, and even an attic for a sofa and a table. All together, with the laying of the stove and the arrangement, about 500 thousand ...
Needless to say that such a sum in a poor settlement made a splash? For three days, the construction of Tasha's bathhouse was discussed by fellow villagers in the spirit of "It's so expensive, it's not necessary for nothing, they are mad about fat". But the most unpleasant side of village gossip was the predictably interesting question "Where does the money come from?".
A neighbor told Tasha a dozen different versions. The most unpleasant ones were those that concerned the woman's children: either the lawyer's son does bad things, or the daughter, who went to study in Moscow, "earned".
The bathhouse saga ended in a quarrel with the neighbors:
Tasha felt disgusting. The new building was no longer happy. But the worst thing is that she had a feeling of guilt for the "luxury". Therefore, when the building was put into operation, let the neighbors take a steam bath.
Those, by the way, discussed and then talked behind their backs about the "Disadvantages of the bath". Say, she's not so good, half a lam is not worth it
Once a neighbor asked her family to take a steam bath on Saturday, when his son and wife came to see Tasha. Tasha, a surprisingly gentle person, still found the strength to refuse. And a huge scandal erupted. My friend listened to everything in the spirit of "Get in your head", "We know where the money comes from"... I felt sorry for her and ashamed for the people.
Why is everyone so fond of counting other people's money?
