Why Peonies turn yellow. Telling my sad experience, don't make my mistakes
Despite the fact that peonies are flowers known for their unpretentiousness, there are a number of mistakes that summer residents often make. This leads to the appearance of yellowness on the leaves and petals.
I had to face a similar problem too. The once fragrant peony bushes have become liquid. The green foliage turned yellow. I began to figure out what could be the reason.
The first is pests. The second is disease. In my case, the "combo" came out! So. I am talking about my sad experience and how to solve the problem.
Rust and powdery mildew
After a long research, I realized that the lush bushes were affected by rust and powdery mildew. The first disease is caused by fungi.
They appear on the foliage of the peony in the form of yellowish and brownish spots. They appear at the end of mid-July. The affected leaves spin and dry quickly.
By the way, you need to fight the disease urgently, since fungal spores spread very quickly and infect other plants.
There are methods of struggle:
1. It is necessary to cut and collect diseased leaves during the growing season, and then burn them.
2. Additionally, it is necessary to spray the bushes with a 1% Bordeaux liquid.
3. Phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied as a preventive and strengthening agent.
Powdery mildew is also a fungal disease. It infects mature plants. As a result, the appearance of a snow-white bloom and rapid drying of foliage on the bushes.
An excellent remedy in this case is a 0.5% solution of soda ash with the addition of household soap. Processing is performed twice at intervals of 10 days.
Garden pests
What a terrible mistake I made when I mistook ants for cute garden helpers and forest orderlies. In our case, they are simple pests, which also caused the appearance of yellowness on the foliage of peonies.
Sod ants hit all the buds, ate the petals. It's no secret that they feed on bud secretions. So, there could be no question of lush bloom and brightness of flowers.
In the fight against goose bumps, I was helped by special deterrent drugs. They are sold in all garden shops. There are ready-made compositions.
And there are chemicals that need to be diluted. This year I immediately bought the necessary chemistry and started bait. My peonies delight with beautiful flowering and lush greenery!
I hope these tips and my mistakes will help you not to step on the same rake. And do not forget that the cause of yellowness can also lie in other pests!
