How to make a warm seam in masonry from various wall blocks

click fraud protection

Because I am building from aerated concrete, then we will first consider obtaining warm seams in this material. Warm seam - a masonry layer of glue or mortar with minimal heat transfer and no blow-through (washer).

I use mineral glue on horizontal joints. It has a higher thermal conductivity than aerated concrete and is a cold bridge. But since its thickness according to the rules of work is only 1-2 mm, then this is not critical. It's not even visible on the thermal imager.

In order to reduce heat loss through it, you need to apply glue with a comb along the wall. It happens that not all of it spreads under the block and voids are formed by a strip:

Here I had to remove the block I had just laid. It can be seen that the glue did not spread in all places under the block with the formation of a uniform layer. Longitudinal air voids formed. They work like insulation. This is the masonry of the inner wall, but the outer one is the same.

Places of glue application with magnification. Air voids are more clearly visible here.

Using a carriage to apply glue produces a “wave” and voids in the joint along the wall.

Vertical seams, as I already wrote in previous articles, are foamed with glue foam (there are grooves in Sibit blocks).

You can conduct all the masonry on glue-foam, but I did not do it. I didn't risk it. I will describe the reasons in a separate article.

If glue is applied with a spatula across the walls or randomly (for example, in corner blocks), this will increase heat loss and a washer may appear. Of course, when the glue is liquid, it spreads under the block in an even layer. But in hot weather, water from it is absorbed into aerated concrete quickly and this does not always happen.

When using other types of wall materials, laying is carried out on a thick layer of mortar (brick, warm ceramics, expanded clay concrete blocks, heating block). There are techniques that allow you to make a warm seam even there:

Claydite concrete block masonry. Insulation is laid in the middle of the blocks, breaking the cold bridge. Jute or holofiber.

A layer of mortar in the masonry of heatblocks is applied in the same way. And foam is applied to the foam. Vertical grooves are also foamed.

The laying of warm ceramics must also be done in the same way, using special carriages:

But almost all bricklayers who work with bricks do not know about this. The seam is made continuous. Besides, it cannot be made thin, since the geometry of the blocks is not ideal and there are differences in the joints between the blocks. In aerated concrete masonry, they can be smoothed with a float. Here - only the height of the masonry seam.

One of the reasons for choosing aerated concrete for its construction was the desire to reduce the area of bridges cold, because in total, they can spoil the picture against the background of even good indicators of the wall itself material.
