Cappadocia in Turkey is the strangest place in the world where locals live in mushroom houses
Oh, what a strange place Cappadocia is! When they told us this, we nodded, but mentally weighed skeptically: well, what could be so strange there? Well, the landscapes are unusual. So what? Many countries have unusual landscapes. But the reality exceeded all expectations!
The landscapes in Cappadocia are really weird! Highly! They are not like anything else and the main idea when you see them for the first time is that you are not on Earth! This is a completely, completely different planet!
Imagine a plain. Covered with either rocks, or mountains, or hills. Multi-colored. Moreover, some of them have a very strange, seemingly non-natural form. Well, nature cannot create such a thing! How?! How can she create a stone mushroom with a cap?! So that there was a leg, there was a hat, and on it there was a sharp cone, stretching upward, like some toadstools. And it would be okay to have one such sculpture. One could come to terms: and what the wind does not create with a stone. But such mushrooms in the valleys of Cappadocia are dark and dark. How could the wind have managed to give them all such a similar shape?!
In general, it is believed that the landscapes of Cappadocia are of volcanic origin. That is, all local rocks (and mushrooms formed from them) are the product of a volcanic eruption in antiquity. This is probably the way it is, since all the researchers unanimously affirm this. But somehow we did not imagine the frozen volcanic lava or other remains of the existence of a volcano. And, frankly, the structure of local mushrooms is more like sandstone - a very soft stone, from which it is easy to carve sculptures or something similar.
In a word, I will not say about volcanoes, but the fact that the stone here is very soft was noticed not only by us, but also by the locals, who have lived in the valleys of Cappadocia for a long time.
You come up to a local stone mushroom, and in it there is a small depression (and if you're lucky, then a large one). And if you try, you can easily expand it and make it deeper. And if you try even better, then here is a cave room for you. Get in and live for yourself. Lovely!
And this is not our idea. This is how the inhabitants of ancient Cappadocia built their homes. And, do not believe it, but this is how some local citizens still live. By the way, this does not mean at all that they are on the edge of poverty. Because their cave houses are very cozy and comfortable. There is light, sewerage and everything that is needed for a modern person.
And some of the owners of cave houses went even further - they turned their homes into comfortable hotels. Which, by the way, are in great demand and living in them is quite expensive. Well, of course! Where else can you find this ?!
True, not all of the local rock dwellings are located in the mushroom houses, but what exactly is in the rock caves is undeniable. And there are such hotels. And a cafe. Solid exotic!
We really wanted to live in a cave hotel, for a long time we dug among the options offered, for a long time choosing. But they did not dare - it is expensive. She settled in an ordinary, familiar building. Now we regret a little - when will such an opportunity appear ...
And what usually wins with you - the desire to save money or watch, try or feel something interesting?
