12 years ago I decided to build a reservoir on my site. Here I will tell an unadorned story about my "Venice" on the site, the desire to build a beautiful pond, and how, in the end, a pit for frogs came out.

How did the idea to dig a pond come about?

I am not a fan of the garden, but for every firefighter, so that suddenly in my old age I would not be drawn to stand in the pose of a drinking deer over the beds with carrots and radishes, I decided to allocate a place on the site for a pond. Come in handy: swim in the summer; winter winter; to fish and admire nature all year round.

My plot of 12 acres was originally a pond: the water table, as they say, is ankle-deep. It seems that it is not a swamp yet, but definitely not the earth. To get rid of the water, you need to either pump it out or raise the soil, because there was not the slightest desire to crush the frogs with their boots on their land. I took the second path, now the earth is filled, but the thickness of the soil layer is different everywhere - from 0.2 to 0.5 m. ⠀

The geology of the site was not done - it was not needed: all the water on the surface, what to look for? You drop a couple of bayonets down - and here she is dear. It seemed that nature itself called to arrange a natural reservoir on my site. So I decided: they say I will dig a pit and water will fill it by itself. That's the whole pond!

How the pond was dug ⠀

I dug a pit for the reservoir in the shape of a boomerang in order to compactly arrange the pond on the site, and to get out to the fullest. The ends of the boomerang came out 6 meters each, the width in the bends is 3.5 m.The length of the boomerang's ears should be enough run, and the width of the pond should have been enough for two or even three adults to lightly wave their arms while swimming swimmers.

Further, he called an excavator, drew boundaries on the ground and wanted to buy a fishing rod for fishing. But, there is an ambush. The tractor first removed the fertile layer, then the bulk sand of two colors and gradually moved first to gray-brown, and to a depth of 1.8 m - gray-blue clay. Only at the end of the digging of the hole, at a depth of 2 m, droplets of water began to seep from the piece of land. Let's go for some water! Moreover, five meters from my site, not long ago, at a level above the bottom, one and a half meters frogs were swimming and muskrats were having fun. ⠀

The excavator handled quickly. The cut looked like a layered, unbaked cake. Below is a softened gray-blue dough, then a gray-brown filling, above it is a biscuit of bright yellow sand, then whipped cream of white sand and a sprinkling of cocoa - a fertile layer on top. Beauty! The research was successful: he got water and looked at the layers of earth under the site. It remains to languish in anticipation of the water filling the pit to the top. ⠀

The bottom line or the paddling pool came out great

Three days later I came to admire the picturesque lake and plunge into the water. There was water in the pit, of course, but it was clearly not enough for a dive. At the bottom of the pit, approximately at the level of unbaked dough, the very old-timers of the local lands swam merrily in a muddy clay slurry, pushing off from the bottom.

Now imagine a beautiful view: on one side there is a mountain of clay and motley sand from a pit; and on the other side - a pit with frogs. Where the pond was planned - it turned out to be a dull-looking dirty paddling pool. I got upset, grabbed my head. Yes, how hard he grabbed, reached out to the remains of his mind! ⠀

What to do? Advise!

There was no water yet. I had three options: to bury the hole to hell and forget about it; open a frog farm; find water and carry out our plans. I decided to look for ways to fill the pit. What I did - read on.
