Why are such narrow houses being built in Vietnam?

When visiting Vietnam for the first time, it is difficult to ignore the local architecture. At first glance, it seems that the houses of the Vietnamese are very small, and their location causes discomfort to the owners themselves. But such a building is typical for Vietnam, since this country has introduced a tax on the facade of the building. It doesn't matter what area the whole house occupies, the main thing is how long its facade is.

In addition, the most advantageous is the location of the house next to the road. In my opinion, this is logical, since in almost every Vietnamese house, on the ground floor, there can be a shop, cafe, hairdresser or massage parlor, where all family members work. And the most pleasant thing is that such a business, in your own home, is not taxed (the exception is the sale of tobacco and alcohol). The closer the road is, the higher the profit.

The standard width of a Vietnamese house is 3–6 meters and a length of 15–20 meters. Often a Vietnamese home has three or four stories. The principle of building budget hotels is the same. Because of this, in many cities you can see buildings with a small area, but including eight, and sometimes ten floors. Having settled in such a hotel, it is highly likely that there will be no windows in the room. This is the norm for Vietnamese buildings.

The Vietnamese themselves are used to the lack of sunlight in their homes. This is due to the fact that hardworking Vietnamese finish their work after sunset. And the sun sets early in this country, since Vietnam is located close to the equator. There is only one window on each floor of the house. The density of houses is so high that it makes no sense to install windows on the side walls of the building. And even if at the moment the neighboring plot is empty, then perhaps in a few months there will be a house built back to back.

Since in most cases the first floor is given over to business, the Vietnamese themselves live on the upper floors of buildings. An obligatory attribute of every house is an altar. It does not matter what the family's wealth is, but the presence of an altar is required, since the altar serves as a place for veneration of the ancestors.

The colors of the houses can be varied from light blue to hot pink. Thanks to this, houses located close to each other begin to play with even brighter colors, and the streets look truly festive. It seems that the Vietnamese themselves are saturated with this atmosphere of kindness and eternal holiday. That is why I want to return to this country as often as possible. Would you like to get to know more about the culture and life of Vietnam? Do you think you could live comfortably in the conditions in which the Vietnamese themselves are used to living?
