A new physical paradox discovered by Russian scientists

A scientific group from Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University was able not only to detect, but also theoretically explain a previously unknown physical phenomenon - an increase in the amplitude of mechanical vibrations without any impact from the outside.

What is this phenomenon

In order to understand the essence of the process, you can imagine the most ordinary swing. So, in order to shake them, you need to exert a constant external influence (push them), without this they will stop.

So it was generally accepted that it is simply impossible to achieve vibrational resonance without external influence.

But the scientific group discovered a physical paradox, according to which the excitation of mechanical vibrations occurred due to internal heat resources (that is, the swing swayed by itself).

This phenomenon was discovered in laboratory studies of highly pure crystalline materials. So this is how it was established that the heat at the nano and micro level is distributed at an unusual high speed.

This discovered phenomenon is called ballistic thermal conductivity.

How it all works

Then, serious analytical work was carried out, during which a theoretical explanation of the process was obtained with the conclusions of special formulas. And theoretically the process is described as follows:

The phenomenon of ballistic resonance lies in the fact that in the course of the heat equalization process, in crystal lattice of the material, mechanical vibrations arise, the amplitude of which increases with the flow time.

But growth does not occur indefinitely, but reaches a certain value and then disappears, and the temperature becomes even along the entire crystal.

In addition, it was found that heat is distributed in a special way at the nano and micro levels. For example, it turned out that heat can flow from cold to hot, which leads to completely new physical effects.

Damping of the amplitude of mechanical vibrations for a long time

In the course of further experiments, scientists plan to find a practical application of the discovered phenomenon, and the first thing they will work with such a material as graphene.
