How to Extend the Life of Old Fruit Trees. May they still delight you with Delicious fruits
A garden at a summer cottage cannot be imagined without fruit trees, but after many years, our green pets need special care to prolong life and bear fruit.
In my garden there are several old apple trees, Renet Simirenko and Golden Delicious. My whole family is delighted with their fruits, but the trees are almost 30 years old. Every year I devote more and more time and energy to my favorites. Simple pruning helps me with this.
Pruning the branches vigorously restores the strength of the tree. I carry out this procedure at the end of winter or in spring before the start of sap flow. I shorten the branches by a third of their original length.
Anti-aging circumcision serves several purposes:
· Acceleration of fruiting;
· Regulation of tree growth;
· Increase in yield;
· Improved illumination of all skeletal branches;
· Removal of pests and tops;
· Overcoming the frequency of fruiting.
I start the pruning process by inspecting the apple trees, and then proceed to remove the extra shoots, as they take away the nutritious juices from the tree. I cut off all damaged and dried out processes, after which I begin to shorten the old branches.
Trees should not be allowed to close their crown with branches. This density serves as a natural barrier to sunlight.
Annual pruning thermos the growth of trees in height, which facilitates easy fruit picking. Cutting out large branches, it is necessary a day later to cover the cut site with garden pitch.
This will protect the apple tree from harmful microbes entering the wound. After I finish pruning, I feed the tree. To do this, during the melting of the snow, I apply mineral or organic fertilizers under the root.
Nitrogen and phosphorus are especially useful for apple trees. If there are not enough of them, then it will bear fruit poorly.
Fertilization and timely watering are required for trees not only in spring, but throughout the year. It is especially important during flowering and ovary formation. Wet soil should be in the tree-trunk arches during the hot summer months, and do not forget about the autumn water-charging irrigation.
Visual inspection of trees in early spring reveals the presence or absence of mosses and lichens on the bark. If there are lichens, then they must be carefully removed with a scraper so that the residues do not get into the soil. To consolidate the effect, spraying with iron vitriol is recommended on the “bare” tree.
Periodic spraying of trees with fungicides and preparations that destroy harmful insects, promote better development of trees and protect their fruits from damage.
With a little experience and diligence, almost any summer resident can extend the life of his green friends, who will delight with their delicious fruits.
