How beautiful, simple and inexpensive to equip a garden plot with gabions

At our summer cottage, we were faced with a problem - how to equip the space near the open terrace beautifully and inexpensively? The budget is small, but the functionality was not small: a site with a slope, you need to avoid crumbling soil under the terrace, it should be safe for our children and of course look beautiful. I will tell you in more detail how the selection process was and why, after all, we decided to put gabions.

Gabion is a galvanized steel twisted wire mesh cage filled with stone.

Pluses of gabions:

· Can be of any size (as you like);

· You can choose any filler for gabions (large crushed stone, pebbles, granite);

· Environmentally friendly material;

· Gabions are resistant to temperature extremes and humidity.

For the first time we saw gabions in the south of Russia, when we were on vacation with my husband. Decorative cylindrical gabion-lanterns were used there. Looks amazingly stylish. So why not use gabions in our Ural climate? No sooner said than done!

They bring gabions not assembled. Initially, this is just a mesh that must be straightened and filled with stone, and then the upper part must be fixed (close the gabion).

The process is, frankly, monotonous. Carrying stones and placing them in a net is an exercise for the patient! But the result is worth it!

Important! Stones for gabions must be carefully selected. They must be clean so that the overall appearance of the product is decent, it is also advisable to select stones of the same size.

We chose filling in the form of crushed marble, because the main function of gabions on our site is retaining in order to prevent spilling of earth on the terrace.

It is also an inexpensive stone. Price for 10 cubes with delivery - 6200r.

The very grid of gabions (respectively, also 10 cubes) 15000r. Total all together 21200r. Quite budgetary, in my opinion.

Some of our gabions frame the terrace, and some are used to decorate the barbecue area.
