Push

How often do you take on objects hastily cobbled together by other “masters”? I come across these all the time. I will say more: redoing someone else's work is already a separate direction in the construction business. Such orders are not to my liking, but when the client is in despair and sincerely wants to help him. The main disadvantage of this work is emotional stress: wherever you look, a three-story mat comes out against these would-be masters. I will briefly tell you about one order and reveal some specifics of my work.

How it all started

I got a client who invited me to the attic lining with the design of the attic entrance. Well, I got caught and got caught, everything is as usual: I don’t go to such objects, but I accept the order remotely, in other words, blindly. The client throws off the plan, photo, and this is often enough.

But here the case was a little different - the customer does not understand the roofs, and he sent the plan only for the second floor. As for the roof, he simply explained - it is ordinary! We negotiated the price, terms, on the appointed day, I arrived at the facility with an assistant and here it was revealed to my eyes ...

What was waiting for me at the facility

The roof turned out to be multi-pitched with several cuckoos and pediments, and it was not done very well, to put it mildly.

If in detail:

  • the rafter system is not such, but resembles a bunch of scattered sticks - everything is done crookedly;
  • parallels are not maintained between the rafters, there is a large gap;
  • counterreiki - no;
  • rays of the valleys - curves, randomly;
  • the level of the brick walls is poor.

But we cannot say that this is bad - it's like everyone else. The previous builders did not have a goal to sheathe the whole thing and they did the job as quickly and crookedly as possible. I was glad that it was at least reliable: the audit of the attic confirmed that the fixings were made in accordance with the standards - on nails and corners. In short, it will not rip off in a storm.

Despite all the "shoals" I did not give up this job, but took to work - he is a good man. And the customer was lucky with me - the crooked rafters and slanting valleys did not raise the price of the work!

About responsibility and initiative

The customer wanted to sheathe the attic with plywood, but I suggested a more aesthetic option - lining. A little about initiative: a good master will always tell you the best execution option; the rest will do as the customer says, even if it is wrong and redundant. In this case, the attic and the interfloor ceiling were insulated with 200 mm mineral wool. For what? The attic is cold, the roof is soft and the rain does not drum on it, it would be enough to insulate only the interfloor ceiling. But then, as they say, the owner is a master and on his own initiative he decided to throw money down the drain.

How it was all fixed

And we had to work in extremely uncomfortable conditions and make a difficult fit: sawing the rafters. For this, the vapor barrier was cut and the rafter was leveled, the vapor barrier was glued. All this was done carefully so as not to damage the insulation. By the way, the insulation was not installed qualitatively everywhere, in some places it was necessary to report to the mineral wool. This is from the series: insulated but not warm!

But the main problem is the valleys. I had to output new beams using a laser level. This caused the most inconvenience and problems. But one way or another, the work was completed on time, and the customer was satisfied!
