Free fence without supports, foundation for 50 years: DIY hedge (no worse than thuja)

Once I saw how they make a palm tree from willow twigs. A very impressive decoration for the site turns out. Then I thought, but you can make a free fence on the site using the same technology.

I even found those who offer to make such a fence to order for money. They ask for 1,300 rubles per square meter of wicker fence. But why pay that kind of money when you can do it yourself. I will tell you how to build such a fence and the nuances of work.

The material is available to everyone. Willow is not whimsical. This is the most convenient tree for creating a gazebo, flower beds, a fence, arches, tunnels, etc.

You can cut the cuttings of the plant by the river. It doesn't matter what kind of soil you have, all the cuttings will take root. The plant does not exude soil. The willow grows rapidly in height and width. This will allow you to build a fence quickly, and most importantly for free.

A living fence will retain its beauty for up to 50 years. Even in Russian villages, a wattle fence was used to fence off the site. Such a fence looks more beautiful than a professional sheet, picket fence, slate.

Best for weaving goat, hemp, laurel, red, almond willow. Goat is the best of them all. The rods can be harvested at any time, but are recommended in winter, summer or spring. Now is the right time. Pick up twigs without knots, straight branches 1.5-3.5 cm thick.

You can braid the rods tightly to keep the fence strong. Weave horizontally or vertically. For such a fence, you will need wood or metal supports.

But I want to show another, the most simple fence option without supports and a foundation in the form of a grid.

Living fence - willow mesh

You can also start weaving in the summer, but first, put the rods together, tie them so they don't fall apart and put them in a wide bucket of water. Let them stand in the water so that the twigs give roots. This will take 7-10 days.

Pull the rope so that you can see where the future fence will pass. Dig the ground along this length. Now you can plant willow twigs. Plant to a depth of 30 cm. two or three twigs in each hole. Make an indent of 20-35 cm between them. After a few days, the branches will grow up and you can start weaving the first row. Prune the shoots in fall and remember to intertwine as the twigs grow.

Can be made even easier

Place the rods along the marked line to each other without indentation. In a year, it will be impossible to crawl through such a living fence. Then it only remains to cut the branches and give a beautiful shape. A well-groomed willow hedge looks no worse than a thuja hedge and grows very quickly. An excellent solution for large areas. And do not forget to follow and cut on time, otherwise the willow will spread throughout the site. Or do this: while planting a willow, dig in slate on both sides.
