A strawberry mustache is both good and bad for me. I tell you how I cleverly use them and (or) delete them
A fiery fireworks display, comrades gardeners!
Is the strawberry patch getting mustache again? You cannot leave the situation as it is. Letting the situation take its course is tantamount to "taking away the strength of the strawberries and leaving yourself without part of the harvest for the next year." Or without updating the planting material in the country... But first things first!
Strawberry whiskers that need to be removed regularly
Here the calculation is simple. You need to choose what the strawberries will spend their food on. For a mustache or for ripening berries.
To increase the yield of garden strawberries, the mustache is removed in the spring - as soon as they appear. Spring pruning is done so that nutrients are not wasted on rooting and shoot development. The result of removing the mustache is obvious: in the summer, cut strawberries please gardeners with large and juicy fruits.
The second time, the whiskers are removed after fruiting during foliage pruning. It strengthens plants and allows them to winter safely.

You can also make intermediate trims, removing the mustache as it appears. In the case of a mustache, everything is simple: the fewer shoots, the stronger and more fertile the plant. At my site, I carry out pruning of shoots during the spring-summer season, which allows me to harvest a rich strawberry harvest every year. And I advise you, comrades, from the bottom of my heart!
It is best to trim the mustache with special tools - a garden pruner, scissors or a sharp knife. Shoots are cut at a distance of 7-10 centimeters from the root outlet, leaving a small part of it.
It is advisable to remove the shoots from strawberries in the early morning or evening in sunny and dry weather. Pruning shoots in the rain or on a cloudy and damp day increases the risk of plant disease.
Strawberry whiskers to keep
Garden strawberries actively bear fruit for no more than five years, and some hybrid varieties bear fruit approximately for only one to two years. Therefore, old plants must be periodically replaced with new ones. The easiest and most common way to propagate strawberries is with a mustache..
In order to obtain new plants, the largest and most productive strawberry bushes are selected - it is necessary to take offspring from the "best of the best". In the spring, no more than three whiskers are left on them and in every possible way contribute to the growth and development of shoots, for example, they cut off flowers and ovaries, providing additional nutrition to the shoots.
Rosettes of young plants are formed on the whiskers. It is advisable to leave one outlet on the offshoot, and remove the rest, since they are not strong enough, easily wither and take root poorly in the ground.
The optimal time for separation from the mother plant and planting of young strawberries is late July-early August. It can be planted either directly in open ground or in pots filled with a special substrate for initial rooting.
In the first case, we make a hole in the garden bed, water it abundantly and place the roots of a strawberry rosette in it on a separated process. Sprinkle the roots with soil in such a way that the rosette and the remains of the mustache remain on the surface. We water and feed the plant regularly.
