How do I get 10 kg of potatoes from a bush.
It takes some effort to keep your potato crop happy. It is not in vain that the people say that "without labor, you cannot pull a fish out of the pond."
Growing potatoes is no exception, although compared to some vegetable crops, it does not require much attention.
In this article, I want to share with you some of the points thanks to which I always have a rich harvest of large and healthy potatoes.
The first step is to find good seeds. If you plant small and diseased potatoes, with any, even the most careful care, there will be no good result. Therefore, I advise you to purchase seed potatoes in specialized stores, and not from your hands in the market.
Depending on how early you want to harvest, choose either early or late varieties. But do not forget that for long-term storage it is better to buy late varieties.
The next important step is the selection and preparation of the place where you are going to grow potatoes. This vegetable crop loves rich fertile soil, so fertilization should be applied. I prefer natural ones: manure, humus or compost. Fresh manure is best applied for the winter, so that it has time to rot.
If it is not possible to get natural fertilizers, add some mineral fertilizers, but do not overdo it: the more chemistry gets into the potatoes, the worse it will be for your body.
Since everyone wants to get the harvest as early as possible, insulate the garden.
Before planting potatoes before the onset of heat, I cover the area with a film, allowing the soil to warm up in a day and not cool down overnight. A week later, potatoes are planted in this place and covered again. Instead of a film, you can mulch a bed with straw or hay.
It is advisable to germinate the seeds before planting so that the potatoes sprout as quickly as possible.
Watering plays an important role in growing potatoes. If summers are dry, try to water your potatoes at least once a week.
Treatment with drugs for diseases and Colorado potato beetles is required!
Well, do not forget that potatoes need to change the soil. In no case should this vegetable crop be grown in the same garden for more than two years.
Sow crops or green manures such as rapeseed or oil radish to give the land a rest and replenish its nutrients. For the next year, potatoes will delight you with a rich harvest even without fertilization.
