Hozblok for 100 years: beautiful, functional, and, most importantly, with your own hands!
Powered by FORUMHOUSE
Hozblok - simply speaking - a modernized barn. The building is useful, since the real owner always has a lot of tools that need to be stored somewhere. Now everything is sold on the market - from mobile baths to trailers, and buying it is not a problem. But the fact is that the prices of these products can be called exorbitant. Participant FORUMHOUSE under the nickname Pankrat1975 decided not to waste money, and built a very attractive barn with his own hands. How he did it - see below.
Where did I start
The first thing that needed to be decided was to decide on the size of the utility block and choose a site for it. The place was found immediately - there was an old barn in the yard, which I demolished. The previous construction did not suit me, I decided not to waste time on trifles and make a spacious trailer measuring 6 by 4 meters.
Foundation
Casting tape for such a light construction was extremely irrational and I made a kind of analogue of piles. To do this, I drilled holes with a diameter of 20 and a depth of 120 cm with a motor-drill - only 15 pieces. I decided to make a step 120 cm in length and 130 in width: that is, I got three lines of piles, with approximately the same pitch between each other - the load was evenly distributed.
Next, I made 15 formwork so that the tops of the piles became cubes. I set the formwork on a level. For reinforcement, in each drilled hole, I inserted a reinforcement frame welded from three rods with a diameter of 10 mm. The frame length is 135 cm, of which 120 will be below ground level, and 15 cm will serve as the reinforcement of the cube. I filled the whole thing with ordinary concrete mortar.
Strapping
At this point, I used a bar 150 * 150 mm, 6 meters long. Fastened the beam between each other with a reinforced corner and self-tapping screws. I made the strapping jumpers from two scraps of timber, which I connected a groove to a groove and fastened to long screws. To strengthen the knot from above, having previously selected 2 mm of wood, I nailed a metal toothed plate.
Antiseptic treatment
One of the main points in woodworking is preventing decay and extending longevity. I put pieces of roofing material under the harness, missed with mastic. I have generously processed the wood itself with good biosecurity. I approached this matter seriously: I studied the entire Internet, read reviews, compared prices, chose quality antiseptic at a reasonable price. Bought in online store: paid, delivered very quickly.
By the way, the concentrated biosecurity that I bought from this manufacturer, I really liked. The impregnation is diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 9; it penetrates deeply into wood, which means it provides good protection against various microorganisms and insects. The manufacturer gives a guarantee that the biosecurity will not lose its properties for 35 years! As a result, I processed all the wood that goes to the utility block with it.
I even set up an experiment: I buried a processed piece of timber during construction and watered this place with water every other day. Looking ahead, I will say: I dug up water in two months and from a bar like a duck's back! The antiseptic works with prolonged contact with soil and moisture. In short, I also decided to buy from them for the house biosecurity primer and exterior paint. I advise everyone!
Floor, walls and roof
I laid a floor from a 100 * 50 mm board on the harness: it turned out to be a smooth, reliable wooden platform. Next, it's time to assemble the frame. On it, I used the same 100 * 50 mm board as racks and crossbars. I fastened everything to reinforced corners with yellow galvanized self-tapping screws. The step between the frame posts was 75 cm.
Windows and a door were planned in the front wall, openings for which I also provided, additionally strengthening the frame and distributing the load with crossbars. Having raised the finished walls with the help of utility rooms and secured them with jibs, I proceeded to install the roof, for which I installed a kind of rafter system. For the lathing of the roof, I used a board of 150 * 25 mm.
In front of the rafters, I cut off along a plumb line and fixed them on metal corners. After that I laid the roofing material. Then I lifted the profiled sheets to the roof and attached them with roofing screws. Rain is no longer scary and work can be continued in any weather!
Exterior decoration, door, windows
I decided to make the outer finish an imitation of a bar. Inside, I installed wind and moisture protection on the frame under the skin. It was not planned to insulate the shed, and there was no point in making a vapor barrier.
When the cladding was over, the soul became more cheerful - the utility block acquired a completed look. Then I installed the door and windows. It remains to varnish, to give an elegant look with the help of platbands and some decorative trim. I bought all the paintwork in the same online store. Of course, you still need to make a porch and hang beautiful lighting, but this is a little later.
Price
This pleasure cost about 85 thousand rubles - I did not keep a particularly accurate record. I will say one thing: for this money, I could buy a lousy execution of a disposable utility block with an area of two times smaller. I stand for quality: my barn will last 100 years!
