Where you shouldn't plant winter Garlic if you don't want to be left without a Harvest at all

Planting winter garlic for me, as for many gardeners, is an indispensable autumn event, which allows me to get an ultra-early, vitamin vegetable in the new season!

However, despite the unpretentiousness of garlic, planting it must be carried out according to certain rules.

If you act incorrectly, then, as I was convinced from personal experience, you can easily be left without a crop at all!

And the most important thing is not to be mistaken with the choice of the place for the beds. In no case should the soil for garlic be heavy clay. Or too acidic, that is, with a pH of 7 or below.

In order to make the soil more alkaline, I personally advise adding ash, which also reduces risks that in early spring, young shoots of garlic will be destroyed by those who awaken after hibernation pests.

I also want to emphasize that it is contraindicated to add fresh manure or unripe humus under winter garlic - these generally good folk remedies are generally harmful to any bulbous crops.

Precursor plants are no less important for high-quality cultivation of winter garlic.

After carrots, it cannot be planted for the reason that this root crop, in principle, greedily depletes the soil, drawing nutrients from it.

In fact, after carrots, the earth needs to recover for about a year. But this process can be accelerated by sowing siderates - legumes, mustard, then sealed with green mass for digging.

You cannot plant garlic in the same place twice. And the beds after the onion are not suitable for him. The fact is that after these crops there is almost no potassium left in the soil, the lack of which provokes the defeat of Fusarium for garlic.

And this fungal disease, by the way, can spread to other garden plants - potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants.

Experienced gardeners plant garlic in the same place every 3-4 years. Increased planting, in addition to Fusarium, also threatens the return of a common pest for the Onion family called the stem nematode.

A nematode is also dangerous if winter garlic is planted after spinach or celery.

And finally, there is no need to set aside for winter garlic beds where spicy herbs grew earlier in the summer - basil, mint, cilantro and the like. The fact is that after them the garlic ripens later, its own taste and aroma properties deteriorate.
