How to maximize the life of lithium-ion batteries

Hello dear guests and subscribers of my channel. Accumulators, we are literally surrounded by them, and today there is simply no house in which there are no accumulators and rechargeable batteries. Over time, lithium-ion batteries begin to fail, and improper use only speeds up this process.

This is good for battery manufacturers and not good for our wallets. In this article, I want to talk about a study by scientists from the University of Michigan, as a result of which it was found out how to maximize the life of lithium-ion batteries. So, let's begin.

Recommendations for the correct use of lithium-ion batteries

First recommendation

Try to avoid exposing your battery to both high and low temperatures, especially when it is charging. So if, while charging, for example, your phone, you notice that it gets pretty hot, then remove it from the charge and let it cool down. Only then can the charging process be continued.

The thing is that high / low temperatures can provoke accelerated degradation of almost all battery components. That is why manufacturers of electric cars even directly recommend not turning off the car on especially hot days so that the battery cooling system works efficiently.

For a reference point. Do not charge the battery if the temperature starts to go out of the range of 10 to 35 degrees Celsius.

Second recommendation

It is contraindicated to completely discharge or recharge the battery. Ideally, your battery should always be between 20% and 80% charged. Leaving this range still accelerates degradation processes (dendrites form faster).

You need a fully charged battery, then, as soon as the indicator shows 100%, then immediately remove it from charging. So those who like to leave the phone overnight to charge think about it, this way you only bring the time when the battery is unusable and you will have to buy a new (or new phone).

Third recommendation

Now it has become fashionable to use fast charging. Yes, on the one hand it is convenient, 30 minutes and the phone is fully charged, but on the other hand, it does not have a very good effect on the service life of lithium-ion batteries.

An extremely fast battery discharge is also harmful, since with a high-speed charge / discharge process, the likelihood of dendrite growth increases, which significantly reduces the battery life.

If you can, then give up fast charging and use a "slow" charger.

Fourth recommendation

In addition, try not to use, much less store, rechargeable batteries in a humid environment. First of all, this applies to those who like to watch a couple of funny videos in the bathroom, such viewing shortens the life of your battery much faster than usual.

Conclusion

As you can see, the recommendations are not complicated and with minimal effort each of us is able to follow them. And this will allow you to maximize the life of your batteries, which means it will save you from additional expenses for purchasing new ones. Take care of yourself and your equipment. Thanks for attention!
