How to easily and quickly propagate peonies in September - a proven method
Peonies are a true decoration of every garden plot. Incredibly elegant, fragrant, they are wonderful when they just bloom in the garden, and just as good at home. Peonies delight the eye and fill the apartment with a summer floral scent.
In a word, the lucky man is the one who has grown a bush of peonies in his country house. However, there is never too much beauty, so let us tell you how to propagate peonies from one bush.
Consider the most basic ways of breeding peonies: using seed, cuttings, and dividing the bush. Only experienced breeders are grown with the help of seeds. We'll talk about other methods, and the first is dividing the bush. The beginning of September is a good time to propagate peonies by dividing the bush.
Advice: before I start dividing the peonies, I count the number of stalks, I make sure there are 9 of them. The diameter of the circumference of the ground, which the stems occupy, must be more than nine centimeters. If the stems are close to each other, within 6 cm, then such a rhizome cannot be divided, it is recommended to wait another year for separation.
An autumn peony transplant guarantees 100% blooming in spring, as it is in the fall that new buds are born. The plant for this method must reach the age of 6-7 years.
The bush is dug up, washed from the soil, slightly dried in the shade for four hours. Then the bush is cut into plots, you need to pay attention that each has at least 3 buds. After this procedure, clean up all rotten areas.
Sprinkle the slices with charcoal. So you need to leave for a couple of days in the shade so that they dry thoroughly. After that, the plots can be planted immediately. Water the seedling, water the weeds and cover well for the winter. This breeding option for peonies is the simplest.
You can try to propagate the peony by cuttings. A root cutting is a piece of rhizome with a root and a growth eye.
If, after the first method of breeding a peony, you still have such planting material, great.
Such cuttings must be kept for about an hour and a half in a solution of potassium permanganate for disinfection, then rolled in charcoal and left to dry for a day. After that, you can plant the cutting, take care of it in the same way as described above.
The stem must be carefully cut off at the base of the bush and divided into 2-3 cuttings, each of which should have 2 internodes.
To root the plant, prepare a bed in the shade, dig up the ground along with the compost, and sprinkle the bed with sand on top. Bury each stalk in the sand by 4 cm; a distance of 8-10 cm from each other must be observed between the cuttings.
Cover the bed with foil, spray the seedlings three times a day and ventilate the shelter, starting from the third week, do not overheat. Cover the cuttings with straw, sawdust, and foliage for the winter. And in the spring you can transplant the cuttings to a permanent place.
