Folding accordion gates with their own hands: the "masters" asked 70 thousand, it cost me 40

Do it yourself or hire performers? The FORUMHOUSE participant under the nickname ShurickF did not look for an answer, but simply welded and installed a gate of an unusual design. How he did it, how much the product cost - see below.

I decided to share the design of my folding accordion gate, which I welded last summer. I had no experience in this matter, so do not judge strictly. Like and write in the comments how you would have done!

Specifications

• Width - 5.5 meters. I don't remember the height, but I don't want to measure it again.
• The foundation is a recessed tape. Two-way adjustable posts on flanges.
• Hinges adjustable in three planes.

Automation was not originally envisaged and is not planned for the future. The gate is needed for periodically driving the truck into the backyard, which is not yet equipped and is used for unloading sand / crushed stone / firewood or as a workshop.

Design

I chose the design for a very long time. Simple swinging ones do not suit me: after the delivery of Kamaz rubble, I can close them only after processing this rubble. Of course, fitness is our everything, but throwing 10 cubes of rubble to close the gate is a little too much.

With recoil, too, did not work out very well. The width of the opening to be closed is 6 meters, on one side there is a hedge that we have been forming for more than 30 years, and on the other - only 5 meters to the border of the site. I did not want to greatly reduce the opening, Kamaz was already too cramped for maneuvering. A non-standard solution was needed. I studied forums and drew sketches for more than a year until I settled on this option.

I did not find adequate performers, I did it myself

It was not possible to find an adequate performer, any "non-standard" is not easy is expensive, this is a reason to cut down the dough from the customer, but more, more. With the local brigade, regularly “grazing” with neighbors, I started with “Daraga! All this for 14,000 we will do it so much that you will lick your fingers ", and stopped at 70,000 without a foundation and guarantees of solid prices: “70 or we'll see how much more it turns out, well, and for the foundation it would be necessary to add the same amount, but maybe more ".

I decided that I would do it myself, it wouldn’t work for me in terms of time, but for the saved 110,000 I’d better buy something useful. Again I will have experience. Decided and done!

Expenses

In general, I figured this: there is a maximum of 15,000 iron, sand and crushed stone available, 5-6 bags of cement, paint, hinges, consumables... Well, 25,000 rubles for everything about everything. Okay, 40,000 given the almost complete lack of welding skills. I have a welding machine, I also have minimal experience, I'm not even doing very badly with thick metal.
