Incorrect air temperature

It should not fall below 0 ° С, since freezing, even short-term, can not only reduce keeping quality, but also worsen the taste.

If it rises above + 4 ° C, then the tops of the beets begin to sprout. Ideally, the air temperature should be kept at around + 2 ° C.

Lighting

Many unknowingly store vegetables in the kitchen or veranda of a private house, loggias in a city apartment, and in all these conditions, they open access to sunlight.

It is very important. The place where the beets are stored should be dark at all times.

Insufficient drying

Beets that contain a lot of moisture tend to decay quickly. And the reason for this may be that it was collected in wet weather.

After rain, you should wait 3 days and then harvest the beets. But even if the root crop was harvested in dry weather, it must be steamed before being harvested for permanent storage. days in a well-ventilated area, sometimes turning it over so that the vegetables get rid of the surface moisture.

Low air humidity

There is no mistake! Moisture can damage the beets at the beginning, but then in the place of storage, the level of air humidity for the first 2-3 months should not fall below 90%.

Otherwise, the roots begin to dry out and soon become unsuitable for food.

Removal of tops and roots

Twisting beet stems by hand is as harmful as breaking pumpkin tails. Because of this, beets can quickly rot.

The correct actions are to trim the tops, keeping tails about 1 cm long on the roots, as well as shortening those main roots that have grown longer than 7 cm. Those that are shorter are better left.
