Fiery fireworks, comrades vegetable growers!

Do you want to get a good harvest of winter garlic? It is enough to put a pinch of your labor - to make a pillow under the cloves from 2 almost free ingredients. A few years ago, I read this advice in a magazine on the topic of home gardening and successfully tested it on my site. I told my relatives - and now they also use the method with pleasure. I share with you too.

An insert for those who have not yet planted winter garlic in 2020

Perhaps you will be interested in listening to information from the Gardener's lunar calendar. If not, just scroll down.

  • The most unfavorable days for planting cloves are New Moon and Full Moon. Astrologers say that these days in nature everything goes somersault, so it is better to postpone the beginning of significant affairs until later. In 2020, these are October 2 and 16.
  • "Neutral" days will not harm garlic, but they will not bring any benefits for planting. These are all the days of the growing moon: from 18 to 30 September and from 17 to 30 October.

  • The lunar calendar advises planting winter garlic on the waning moon. This is the planting time for all plants, among which we are interested in the lower part (roots, garlic, onions, potatoes). In 2020, this time is from 3 to 15 October.

Agronomists, in turn, advise planting winter garlic 3 months before the onset of persistent cold weather.. It is noteworthy that this year the recommendations of astrologers and agronomists coincide in time period. Great!

Ingredient # 1: Good drainage is the key to successful growth of any bulbous crop

The optimal planting time for garlic is 3 weeks before the onset of persistent cold weather. The art of choosing the right day lies in the ability to guess so that the teeth take root, but do not begin to grow the feather

The main enemy of winter garlic is not even frosty cold, but excess moisture. And they often accumulate in the upper layers of the garden. Here, comrades, the disgusting autumn torrential rains and periodic melting of snow, which fell before frost, during the time of winter thaws and, of course, a huge volume of water literally floods the beds in the spring, when the sun drowns snowdrifts on vegetable garden.

If the cloves of garlic wait for their spring triumph in solid ground that does not allow water to pass through well, they will find themselves in a constant environment of moisture. Due to the "wet feet" of the planting material, the risk of rot is significantly increased. This is the main reason why the summer resident will not count units of plants in the spring.

Remember that oranges will not be born from aspen: for planting garlic, take healthy cloves from the best heads

I think the # 1 task when planting winter garlic is to minimize the risks associated with stagnant water. I suggest you, comrades, together with me make drainage of the garlic. Almost the same as we make it for indoor plants sitting in pots.

Of course, we will not take expanded clay. Coarse sand poured into the bottom of the hole will be an excellent filtering component of the "pillow" for winter garlic. Every autumn I collect a small bag from a sandy place near the village - it turns out for nothing! You can go to the banks of a river or lake. I read somewhere that a woman is encroaching on the contents of a children's sandbox in the yard. But, of course, I advise you not to do this)

Ingredient # 2: Natural Nutrient Ingredient - No Chemical Garlic Treat

Many gardeners know about the wonderful properties of wood ash.

Once the simple but well-done drainage is done, it's time to give the cloves some nourishment. Gradually dissolving in the soil due to the interaction with moisture, the natural fertilizer will give an excellent "start" at the first stages of garlic growth.

Although I am more than loyal to purchased "chemical" fertilizers, every fall I put a mixture of ash and earth on the sand in a hole. It is enough after a summer marathon of kebabs and burning plant residues. I make sure to mix ash with earth, because I don't want to deprive the cloves of their natural habitat.
