Such a planting of Garlic in the fall guarantees a rich harvest in any winter.
Like many gardeners, I prefer winter varieties of garlic. At first I just planted it, but then I thought about the fact that perhaps the harvest I am harvesting is somehow meager...
Then, turning to scientific and botanical literature, I realized that only if special rules were followed planting, this culture can safely overwinter even in the most severe season and then bring a rich harvest! And I hope you find this information useful.
And above all, you need to choose a suitable place in terms of predecessor cultures. Ideally, it should be cucumbers, tomatoes, any legumes.
Cabbage, pumpkin, and squash are also suitable. After these plants, the soil is enriched with the elements necessary for garlic. But after potatoes and onions, it is undesirable to plant winter garlic, since they have similar diseases and, accordingly, garlic runs the risk of catching fusarium, a nematode.
The garlic beds in September need to be dug onto a shovel bayonet and fertilized per square meter:
10 kg of humus;
· 2 glasses of ash;
1 glass of chalk;
· 2 tbsp. l. potassium sulfate;
1 tbsp. l. superphosphate.
So that winter garlic is not affected by fungal diseases and retains its full potential "vital energy" until spring, planting material should be immersed for 30 minutes in a disinfecting solution of 1 liter of water and 300 g of wood ash.
One of the main secrets of successful planting of winter garlic is the correct depth of grooves for its cloves - it should vary from 3 to 7 cm depending on their size.
The larger the tooth, the deeper it should be. But it is enough to lower the bulbs by only 2 cm.
It is also important to maintain the correct distance. When planting the teeth, the distance between them should be 10 cm, between the furrows 20-25 cm. For bulbs, this is respectively 5-8 cm and 10-15 cm.
In a cold and even less snowy winter, garlic runs the risk of freezing. To prevent this, it is enough to mulch the beds with it with a layer of rotted sawdust or spruce branches, peat, fallen leaves, humus.
Anything should make a fairly thick layer - 3-5 cm. With the onset of spring, as soon as the snow leaves, it can be removed - the earth will begin to warm up, and the garlic will sprout.
Here are all the simple rules, thanks to which, after any winter, you can collect tasty, hot, juicy, large winter garlic!
