I planted two varieties of Tomatoes for Canning. I liked one variety, but not the other. I tell you in detail

I can't imagine how you can spend the winter without having canned tomatoes on the table with your own hands, as well as a thick sauce made from them? Naturally, I am very interested in trying new varieties of culture.

This year I planted two at once. One made me happy, the other disappointed. And I hope that a detailed analysis of these varietal varieties will be useful to someone else from gardeners.

Sakhalin

Belongs to the group of determinant varieties, that is, it grows strictly to a certain height, in this case - 40-50 cm. Sakhalin does not require tying and pinching, but in principle, in order to achieve maximum yield, it is recommended to form a plant in 1-2 trunks.

With an optimal planting for the development of culture according to the scheme of 50 by 40 cm and 3-4 bushes per 1 sq. m., 2.8-3.7 kg of fruit can be harvested from this area.

The higher the productivity of the bush, the smaller the fruits that Sakhalin forms. On average, their weight is 80-100 g. Bright scarlet with a dense skin, which, which is very important, does not crack with any canning method!

The pulp is medium juicy, there are few seeds in it. In my opinion, Sakhalin tomatoes are ideal for all canning recipes, they always retain their characteristic bright taste and pronounced sweetness.

This variety shows high resistance to tobacco mosaic, fusarium wilt and verticillium. And also it is resistant to the vagaries of weather, including drops of drought and rain.

Silver spruce

The same applies to undersized varieties - does not exceed 50 cm. But due to the large spreading - the Silvery spruce must be tied up, otherwise the crop drawn by the forces of gravity to the ground will be difficult to save.

It is not necessary to graze the variety, but it was the tying, in which the branches still hold on with difficulty in windy weather, that upset me very much.

Planting the Silver Spruce is recommended to the same standards as Sakhalin. Theoretically, from 1 sq. m. it is possible to collect 4.5-6 kg of vegetables. Significantly more than that of Sakhalin, but for my taste, this does not compensate for some of the disadvantages of the variety.

The fruits are medium in size - 60-80 cm, their shape is oblong, saturated red. But the skin is thin; personally, in my canning, part of it cracked.

Although, perhaps you just need to monitor the temperature of the marinade? In any case, this minus was the reason for refusing the Silver Spruce. The taste is not bad, but the sweetness is not as bright as that of Sakhalin.

From personal experience, I can say that the Silver Spruce that I planted suffered more than other varieties from the aphid invasion last season. The only thing that saved her harvest was that I decided to plant fragrant herbs with tomatoes - dill, basil and mint.
