Once I decided not to dig the garden in the fall. Somehow there were too many other things to do, and there was no desire to do what I thought was unnecessary at the time.
In hindsight, I realize that this was one of the worst decisions I could make in relation to the result.

Weed control
Digging a garden in the fall is an excellent way to get rid of weeds completely throughout the entire area. This is especially true for perennial weeds, which are not so easy to defeat.
The seeds of annual weed plants freeze in the dug, loosened soil, so next year they will grow much less.
When I didn't dig the garden in the fall, I faced this problem: for the next garden season, the weeds were simply tortured, part of the harvest suffered from this.
Improving plant conditions
By loosening the earth, we improve the exchange of oxygen in it. Such soil becomes much more fertile.
The roots of plants in it receive enough nutrients, as a result, all plants feel much more comfortable and grow better next year.
Fertilizing the soil
Did you feed the soil well with fertilizers in the fall? In spring and summer, everything that you plant in your garden will grow significantly better. During the digging of the garden, both mineral and organic fertilizers should be evenly applied.
Do not feel sorry for them: it is important to properly prepare the soil on our site for the season next year. Just apply all the necessary fertilizers, the soil will be saturated with them well enough during the coming winter.
Planting future garden crops in it will be a much more rewarding and rewarding activity.
Elimination of pests and pathogens
Densely compressed soil is an excellent breeding ground for a variety of pests and microorganisms that provoke plant diseases.
That is why it is so important to dig up the whole garden in the fall. One has only to loosen the soil - and most of the pests will not survive the coming winter. Next year, your plants will be much healthier and more vigorous.
