Why I gave up the attic floor and am building a house with a full second floor

At the design stage of the house, I abandoned the option of an attic second floor for several reasons. Although, the area of my house is not large and, by design, an attic or half attic is most preferable.

It looks like an ordinary box without any architectural delights. A hip roof over the porch will be added, the hip roof itself on the house with an attic window from the entrance side and there will be a balcony on the columns on the back with a view of the forest.

This form of the house is the easiest to build. All sorts of bay windows, broken ledges of rooms - it's all beautiful and interesting. But it requires experience in their construction, knowledge in technical solutions. I followed the path of least resistance. Simple rectangular box - simple technical solutions. And the level of design can be increased with a beautiful facade and roof.

Someone will say that a full floor is more expensive than an attic. Yes, but not much. And even more so in the total cost of the house - it is a penny. In the half-attic, you save on the walls, but you need to lay out the pediment from wall material. Somewhere less - somewhere more. There will be no significant savings.

Moreover, the attic or half-attic in a house made of aerated concrete is also technologically more complex. Armopoyas under the Mauerlat must be launched under the walls with gables. Otherwise, the attic will tear the walls, cracks will go. This is found not only on aerated concrete walls, but also in brick houses with a semi-attic.

A cold attic is better than an attic. It does not interfere with rain, which will be heard through the attic roof, especially with a metal roofing. The thickness of the insulation - whatever you want. And in the attic - it is limited by the thickness of the rafters or they need to be increased. The adjoining of a tree to the walls is, conceived, problem areas and a lot of heat goes through them.

Construction after rain

According to my project, I have a often ribbed monolithic overlap using the MARKO-economy technology. With aerated concrete as voids. The next construction season should be interesting. There are no problem areas with heat loss in principle. And the thickness of the floor made of aerated concrete 200 mm and concrete 5 cm, plus a layer of insulation make the house warmer compared to the attic.

On the attic floor, there are difficulties in arranging furniture. Sometimes you need to lay beveled window openings. This is all technologically more difficult to do when building from aerated concrete. Jumpers are needed only monolithic.

By my calculations, I will overpay 200 thousand. rub. for the attic monolithic floor. If you do it with wooden beams, then in their rough version you can save significantly. But I decided that the house would be completely stone. And the insulation is basalt mineral slab.

A hip roof is more complicated and more expensive than a gable roof. But I'm ready to overpay for her too. I even considered the option of a flat roof. But because of the design of such a house, he rejected this idea. Although, you can save up to 300 thousand. rub. The house should be liked in everything. For this reason, I build myself. I like the process and should be happy with the result and the look. I shift my savings on work towards improved, more expensive options for roofing, flooring and a full-fledged floor.

On YouTube, on the channel of a construction company, I found two houses that are very similar to my project. These are examples:

It looks quite harmonious. The area of the houses is comparable to mine. And if you replace the brick cladding option, then the facade design can be made much more interesting. In this I have not yet clearly defined, this is still far away.
