How to make Hippeastrum bloom beautifully. 5 Tips to Help You With This

Hippeastrum has long been loved by many growers. Beautiful "stars" of various colors on a graceful stem delight the eye and create a special mood for everyone, who looks at them - even a modest interior seems more festive and joyful if the house is blooming hippeastrum.

But it is not always possible to make it bloom - with improper care, the plant will refuse to do it. Here's what I can advise to solve this problem:

Transplant into a tighter pot

The golden rule for very many plants, which is also suitable in the situation with hippeastrum, is that too spacious a pot provokes the rapid growth of plant leaves, sometimes the stem, but not flowers!

In order for the plant to bloom, it must be cramped in the pot. Therefore, it should be very small.

Even if the current pot size is adequate, I recommend replanting the hippeastrum every 3-4 years.

Arrange a summer vacation for the plant in the country

Many gardeners plant hippeastrum for the summer in open ground. This is the right approach to business: during the summer season, the plant will accumulate nutrients and grow leaves, later it will bloom beautifully and brightly.

Don't forget about the need for a rest period

Hippeastrum needs to rest. From early to mid-September to early January, the plant must provide a dormant period. Beginning in August, gradually reduce watering and feeding, the leaves will already die off by that time.

Move the hippeastrum to a cool, dark, dry place without watering or feeding it. Your hippeastrum will accumulate nutrients and be able to bloom after this period.

Don't cut the leaves

The leaves that the plant has grown over the summer should in no case be cut off before the dormant period.

You need to wait until they give all the nutrients to the bulb and die off themselves, this will be much more beneficial for your plant. They can be removed only after they are completely dry.

Feed the hippeastrum

In the summer, it is recommended to feed the hippeastrum once every 2 weeks with complex potassium-phosphorus fertilizers. You should not use nitrogenous fertilizers - this plant can get sick and rot due to their use.

Observing all the conditions, you can get fantastically bright and beautiful flowers that will be a worthy reward for the work spent caring for the plant.
