You can apply wax with a spray gun, but with a car sponge there will be a smoother coating and less wax will go away. You need to paint in 2 layers. Then, after 5 years, you can walk with a sponge and wax along the slats on the facade to renew.

Another option is blowtorch firing. This will also extend the service life of the rail (up to 80 years). Coniferous wood is suitable for such protection. Moisten the rail in advance before firing in order to obtain uniform heating. Remove the carbon deposits with a coarse brush. Additional protection won't hurt. Cover the rail with water repellent and UV treatment.

Self-tapping screws - not a good decision. Better to mount on galvanized nails using finishing pistol (can be rented or bought for 3000 rubles). Leave a distance of 12-15 mm between the slats.
