House made of shipping containers: the pros and cons of unusual housing
Container houses are relatively new and unusual housing. Everyone has long been accustomed to technical temporary dwellings of this type, they are not surprising and are taken for granted.
But here is how permanent housing, in which people will live for many years, is still a very, very unusual option.
There are a number of advantages and disadvantages as well.
Benefits:
- Strength. The all-metal container has an impressive safety margin.
- No foundation needed. Filling of the pile or arrangement of the columnar option is required.
- Installation speed. After installation, you can quickly complete all the necessary finishing. In the case when a ready-to-live module is supplied - this is not required either!
- Ample opportunities for layout and location. It is only required to level the platform.
- Quick disassembly or relocation. An aerial platform and a container carrier will allow you to quickly move the structure to a new, even very remote, place.
- Possibilities for expanding the area by purchasing and installing new modules.
Disadvantages:
- Small footage - settlement is possible only after all types of fixing work have been completed.
- The specifics of finishing and insulation. Not every construction team or craftsman will be able to finish such housing.
- Low ceilings. The dimensions of sea containers are standardized and such housing obviously cannot boast of high ceilings. The unified parameters impose their own restrictions on the next paragraph.
- Elongated narrow rooms. At the design stage, you will have to seriously work with the layout of the rooms and zoning.
- Attraction of additional equipment during installation. You cannot do without the services of an aerial platform and a container carrier.
- Difficulties with the legalization of the building in the BTI. Legally, this type of housing is temporary. This can affect the conditions and the possibility of connection and communications.
Despite some specific difficulties, building a permanent and comfortable housing for life from sea containers is a very real and urgent task in the current conditions, do you agree? Who knows where and when a container traveled before, before it became your home!
