Rules for hiding roses for the winter, which I always follow exactly

Rose, in my opinion, is the real queen of the garden. I always dreamed of a lot of roses in the garden. And despite the fact that I live in Siberia, with cold winters, I managed to fulfill my dream.

Every fall I do a very important procedure for my beauties - a shelter for the winter. Since there are winters without severe frosts, but there are vice versa. How can one predict.

The rules for hiding roses for the winter, which I always follow exactly - and they never freeze out of me, even in severe cold

Before hiding, a couple of weeks first, I pour fertilizers under each bush. Sometimes I change the types of dressings.

But more often I use this: I add 25 g of superphosphate, 10 potassium sulfate and 2-3 g of boric acid to a 10 liter bucket of water. Depending on the size of the rose, 3-5 liters per rose.

Be sure to spray plants with fungicides as a prophylaxis against diseases and insect pests.

I choose a dry day for shelter. It is also best that there has been no rain for a few days before. Otherwise, the rose under cover may start to rot.

The optimal time is late October - early November. If the roses have not yet managed to cover, but the first snow has already fallen or there is frost, it's okay, they endure it without loss.

I remove all the leaves from the roses and from the stems, since during the thaws they will be a favorable source for the occurrence of diseases.

I cut almost all my roses, leaving a height of 20-25 cm. If their stems bend well, as, for example, in climbing ones, they can be bent to the ground and fixed with something, then you can not cut them off.

But roses with thick stems in winter, under the load from snow, if they do not freeze, they will break.

And the very shelter I have is that I pour in the center of the bush and a little around sawdust. Sawdust, of course, must be dry. By the way, if the shoots are bent to the ground. I also put sawdust on them. Even if some of the shoots freeze in severe cold, new ones will come from the center in the spring.

That is, all that needs to be done in the spring is to remove the sawdust. But just do not delay with these. If you do this late, the shoots under them can clash.

Another option that I really liked and which I alternate with sawdust from year to year is the lutrasil covering material. It is made using some kind of technology designed specifically to shelter the plant for the winter.

I just cut off the right amount and cover the roses with it. To keep it from flying away, you can put small boards around the edges. With lutrasil, the risk of damping off in spring is lower than with sawdust.

Such rules for hiding roses for the winter are simple and at the same time effective, until not a single rose froze me out.
