I dug out gladioli, and there are a lot of "kids". What to do with them
After 4-5 years, the beauty and splendor of flowering in gladioli wanes, the inflorescences become smaller, diseases arise. We have to buy new varieties in stores. In order not to spend money, you can breed flower crops with the help of children, which are formed by the fall on the bulbs.
How to grow good bulbs from babies
After I removed the gladioli from the ground with the children, I separate the latter from the uterine bulb and send it for storage in the cellar or basement. In an apartment, they can be kept in the refrigerator, where they will not take up much space.
With the arrival of warmth, usually at the end of April, gladioli can be planted, including children. The dense shell can be removed from them, since some mini-bulbs cannot pierce it with their sprouts.
What to do before boarding
Before planting, it is advisable to soak the children in a soda solution at the rate of 2 teaspoons per 1 liter of water or soak in a cloth at night planting material in a mixture of "Fitosporin" (a little solution is required so that small bulbs do not suffocate in water).
How to plant
Planting material should be separated from large gladioli bulbs, otherwise they will not have enough light for growth. In the grooves made (you can plant the kids in a circle, which saves space on the site), you need to add organic matter in the form of compost.
The substrate should be light so that the sprouts can easily break through to the surface of the earth. The planting depth depends on the height of the bulb. In this case, one rule applies, both for adult bulbs and their children. So, the planting depth is 2-3 bulb heights.
The distance between the children must be kept within 5 cm. Very small onions can be planted more often. It is important that in the future they do not compete with each other.
After planting the children, the ground must be well moistened.
