There will be a hydrogen energy industry - an action plan for its development has been approved in Russia

Progress does not stand still, and in order not to be left on the sidelines of the world economy, it is necessary now to look for alternatives to the obsolete coal. Hydrogen energy is considered one of the most promising areas.

So on October 22, 2020 by the Order of the Government of the Russian Federation dated October 12, 2020 No. 2634-r was a plan (the so-called "roadmap") for the development of hydrogen energy in the Russian Federation until 2024 was approved of the year.

Hydrogen energy and its prospects

If you trust expert opinions, then by 2050 the share of hydrogen energy in the global world may increase manifold. And this is primarily due to the fact that all over the world (especially in Europe) a trend is developing on decarbonization (rejection of coal) in the economy, and ultimately reducing harmful emissions into the atmosphere to zero level.

And hydrogen energy is considered an ideal candidate for achieving zero pollution, all because hydrogen can be obtained from the use of so-called low carbon sources, and when hydrogen itself is burned, safe water is formed, and there are no greenhouse gas emissions in atmosphere.

Hydrogen energy and Russia

Russia does not want to remain on the sidelines of world progress, and therefore the hydrogen energy sector is enshrined in the updated Energy Strategy of the Russian Federation, calculated up to 2035.

Of course, there is a lot of work to be done, but Russia has all the necessary resources and a lot of underused capacities, which can be used to fully implement the most ambitious plans.

So by 2024, it is planned to implement several pilot projects in the field of hydrogen energy. But first, the very concept of hydrogen energy development needs to be worked out.

This is what will be done until the end of 2021. It is then that both short-term and long-term development goals will be determined.
